Black Sapphire BMW M4 also appears at Detroit Auto Show

Black looks nice but not for me. My E92 was Jerez Black and keeping that thing clean was a real PITA. Bring on SO.

Was hoping for mineral grey but this is good. I'm glad BMW brought a 3rd F8x in a more regular color. Surprised the exhaust tips aren't black, on a black F32 they are

You are not alone. This generation just doesn't have that pop and pazaz in stock form compared to the previous generations. I will say that the sedan is the better looking of the two cars and seems to have more personal character compared to the somewhat boring coupe.

Reserving judgment on black sapphire until I see it in person in Detroit.... My concern with black is that it may hide the cool looking carbon fiber roof too much (but perhaps not when seen in person).

I've always loved black cars, black tends to make cars looks sleeker and sometimes smaller. I love how accentuated the CSL-style trunk looks in black, and how sexy and sporty it looks overall. Until I see other colors, I think this looks way better than Austin Yellow (which I somewhat like) and Yas Marina Blue. To me this color makes those rear fender flares look more pronounced, and overall the car looks lower and more muscular.

My current 2011 X5 is black Sapphire. I loved the color when I picked it.... HATE it now. It is very hard to make look good... much harder than conventional black. It always looks cloudy, like it needs to be wiped off or needs to be waxed. If I ever get a black car again it will be black black black. My M3 was Jerez.... the same kind of difficult but to a lesser extent because that color is really a very dark blue.

The F82 M4 does look good but i feel as if BMW is softening the once great 3( or now 4) series. They were very aggressive during the E46 era. Even the dawn of the E92 showed some softening of the series. Although the E92 M3 does look aggressive and masculine (i'm not a sexist), the F82 and even the non M F32 look very soft, childish and girly.

The new 4 series coupe almost looks like something a 16yr old high school girl will drive (again i'm not discriminating, i'm just expressing my thoughts).

At times i feel like BMW is doing this purposely so the 6 series can still get some shine.

I like it better than any other we have seen on the m4. I still prefer the m3 greatly, but I think this car will have a nice, wide presence in person.

cant wait to see these in person. hard to tell how they will look from just a pic.

It will. Just as Jerez Black hid the CF roof and other CF accessories on the e92. Darkest color I would take is Mineral Grey but at this point I'm still sticking with AW
