So how does the MSP actually work? Must be deployed during the time of order?

Deployed or stationed outside of US during time of order. That includes being on a ship for the navy guys.

Yes, I ordered my last BMW while I was on TDY. But what was interesting, at no time did I have to prove I was deployed/TDY/stationed overseas.

Nonetheless, I'm still waiting till my deployment. I don't see the point of buying a brand new car for it to sit in the garage while I'm gone. Maybe the competition package will be out by then.

Thanks for the info. And I'm Navy… Just wondering how the process would go communicating from a Carrier.

When I saw VA beach location I figured you were. You can pretty much do most everything on the phone and email. They can email you all the docs print sign an send back. I placed my order from Korea with the military sales in Europe. Everything was done over phone and email.

I pretty much did everything through email even when I was on land. But yes, I have wondered the same thing since it has taken me 45 min just to pay my CC bill online while I was afloat.

Worse comes to worse, get up at 2 or 3 AM when no one is clogging up the bandwidth.

Had mine on order for a year, and my production still says June. Guess I can't complain for getting a discount..

I'm probably deploying later this year and I am highly interested in this program...I was trying to determine how the tax-free sale works if you take delivery state-side? Can anyone elaborate on this?

Well, it's only tax free depending on where you tag the car.

For example, I tag my car in FL. The rule was (hopefully still is) that if you don't drive the car on FL roads for 6 months after registration, you don't have to pay any state sales tax.

But if you're going to tag the car in the same state you live, you'll have to pay tax on the car to register it.

PS: don't register it VA, hope you got FL citizenship during flight school (I see you're a COD guy)

I also tag in FL, so I will definitely try to play that angle! I saw on the military sales site (Pentagon's) that they advertise an advantage of their program as 'tax-free' so I was inclined to think that maybe it was something else.

Jockey, you fly too?

It's only tax free kinda. You just have to tag it in the right state. You'd be surprised at how many people don't know about that very key part. Didn't pay a single dime of tax on my last BMW.

I do. Just finished up War College and I'm moving back to VA Beach in June.

I made my down payment in December. I just got a note confirming June build so hopefully July delivery. But I don't have a VIN or anything else so hopefully we see activity soon.

That is quite the long haul.

I've tried convincing myself that I should buy a different car, but I can't seem to. I tried telling myself that the M3 would be too much, but in reality it isn't. Of all the cars I've looked at, they all had nearly the same features, minus the cool-factor and speed of the M.... which in turn would make me regret anything else. Price was nearly within 10k of each other.

I'm thinking of taking delivery this Xmas when I come home on leave. That's really my toughest choice now.
