stion: Does it drain the battery of the car if left plugged in? Answer: Yes. It continually emits the wireless signal, even when the ignition key is off. I experienced a dead battery after leaving it plugged in without using the car for several days. By Gary M. Raetz on October 28, 2014 It did on mine. By Cristina M. on October 28, 2014 I leave mine plugged in. Haven't notice any battery drainage. By Christopher B. on October 28, 2014 OBD II scanners are powered by the OBD II connector in your car, and thus the battery. If you leave it plugged in it will slowly and eventually drain the battery if you're not using the car. It's similar to leaving an interior light on in your car. By TetsuwanAdam on March 14, 2015 I leave my plugged in all the time and have no issues. By Patrick A. on February 9, 2015 It completely drained my battery. It uses Wifi and if your device is within reach it will try to connect (even though it can't). This uses power. By mikewallen on July 25, 2015

Very interesting.. Is the ability to remotely close/open the exhaust flap the same feature as exhaustmeister? I have been looking for a way to keep them open to enhance the sound.

Just got my car back, and had a chance to play with this app. For the life of me I can hear a difference with ASD on or off. Anyone else notice this?

yea, the OBD adapter doesn't have a switch, this cable adds a switch so when I'm away from the car for long periods I can just switch it off without unplugging the unit, quite handy!

According to BimmerLink's website it appears there is a Bluetooth module: Bluetooth LE OBD adapter. Anybody know which one works with the app and has anybody had success with the Bluetooth method? Really want to try this and figured this may be a better approach than the wi-fi route. Thoughts?

This is a much cheaper solution than any of the other valve control options (VSC-2, CANflap, MSC, etc.), assuming it functions properly. So the wifi dongle may have battery issues? Can anyone confirm that it continues to emit a wifi signal even if the car is off? And the bluetooth dongle does not work, despite the version notes for the app explicitly saying that the Carista LE is supported?
IF the bluetooth dongle works, that is likely the better option than futzing around with wifi. I don't have my M3 yet, but in my 335, the phone has no problem simultaneously connecting to both the car's bluetooth, my bluetooth dongle for streaming music, and my Valentine 1 bluetooth dongle... |

Wifi stays on even when car is off
Honestly, I thought I'd use this but never do. With the ASD unplugged and having MPE I don't ever feel like I need to play with the flaps. Having the flaps open all the time sounds less natural when excellerating in sport or sport plus. I like the flaps opening only when throttle is in medium to heavy use. |

Straight from BimmerLink:
Hi Michael, the Carista Adapter works with the app. Kind regards Stephan Can you tell me which BT LE OBD adapter would work with your bimmerlink software? I’m very interested in going this direction vs the wi-fi adapater and want to make sure I purchase the correct adapter. This is for my f80 M3. Thanks! |

plankton99 Did you buy the Carista app? Wonder if you could use that to control valves and ASD? Just spit balling here and seeing how I got a response today from BimmerLink and they are claiming it works I would check for any software updates as stated above. Please keep us posted!

Does background pairing work? I.e., do you have to open the Bimmelink app when the car starts in order to open the flaps, or does the app automatically connect and open the flaps?
