Anyone in Aus done the ceramic retro?
Hi guys
Looking again into doing the ceramic retro fit - part no.34112358378 Only interested in the ceramic oe kit, not looking at bbk's Has anyone done this in Aus? If so, where did you source the kit from? Local dealer price is 24k, which is roughly double the price of US/UK |

all my cars have ceramics, as a hobbiest detailer i like the maintenance aspect of them mostly
regret not ordering them on my car, but wasn't sure i was going to enjoy the f80 to point of keeping it more than my usual 12 month daily driver stint |

took me a while to get my head around the price, but finally took the plunge
bought the kit from scuderia in uk, great price and service, though they did take a while to source, and given they can no longer be optioned, it is getting harder to get this kit out of the factory going on end of the week, in the meantime.... the kit is huge, the rear calipers look larger than the steel fronts, and nice to see in the age of cost cutting with these german manufacturers nowadays either putting steels on rear or tiny single piston slider calipers in rear on ceramic option cars Last edited by domino_z; 07-02-2018 at 09:34 PM.. |

Does anyone know how the drive in the real world? I've heard that carbon-ceramic brakes take a bit of warming up before they provide decent stopping power, and pedal modulation might be slightly dull until they are hot.

but the newer versions drive just like any other steel brake kit - granted pedal feel is different going from steels to ceramic, but it's no different to jumping bw different cars, just takes a few stabs to get used to the different feel around 15k all in. they were going to add 27k to my build when you add all the compounding taxes - granted i still have to pay for install, but i'm well ahead and have the stock steels to put on the car on resale |

...and so it begins
starting with the most time consuming part, replacing the booster means you have to remove all the trim and bracing along the scuttle, fully drain the brake fluid reservoir, it's a lot of work |

ride height is min lowering point, you can go lower, how much more i can't tell ya, i'm in my 30's and too old for slammed daily drivers so i didn't bother looking into it i've been meaning to do a proper review thread, but essentially in comfort mode it's about as soft as an x1 lol, way softer than the M lite cars even. It's actually quite unnerving, you see some broken tarmac, instinctively clench, and nothing happens. they do firm up at speed on hwy and in corners, so it's not too soft. you get some rear spring bind noise going up steepest of driveways on an angle when one shock is fully compressed and other is fully depressed, i don't think there's anyway around this with shorter springs. the best option is sport, it's just firm enough, prob M lite firm, still being softer than oe comfort, and compliance is spot on, no crash, just a solid thud over the worst broker tarmac you can even use sport+ on street with no issue, oe comfort is somewhere bw tractive sport and sport+ in terms of harshness on rough roads you really feel the difference going over speed bumps, where the oe shock felt like it was hitting its bump stop as soon as the front wheel hits the edge lip, the tractive shock feels like its actually going through its whole stroke Last edited by domino_z; 07-09-2018 at 01:41 AM.. |

Tractive shocks have now made the ride tolerable on our broken coarse chip highways
It's still not perfect, and not as smooth as my f-type on same coarse roads, you still have all the road noise and general nvh inherent in the f80, a McPherson strut and a 30 series tyre, but the shocks don't crash/jitter over broken shoulders anymore and the ride is overall more comfortable |

thanks for the review, the TT shocks were offered to me a while back as a good plug and play option to improve the ride but I never went with it, I may now consider it again.
