Purchasing M4 - Need Advice Please!

I am currently in the works of buying a used 2016 BMW M4 with 33k miles from a dealership. Dealership is out of state so I did a Pre-Purchase Inspection from a BMW Dealership.

The technician told me everything look great aside from one thing. He noticed oil starting to leak on the oil pan and advised that it was a “ nothing crazy at the moment but it’s starting to leak and wanted to bring this to my attention”. How serious is something like this?

On the reccomended services section of the evaluation he mentioned “ replace oil pan gasket (found engine leak) - Status as CAUTION.

Is this something I should be seriously worried about? Should I walk from this deal despite how much I love the car because of this? He told me on a scale of 1-10 he said it’s a 1 and it’s just starting. I don’t want to fall into issues right after purchasing the vehicle. Any advice with this would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Personally I would try to negotiate that into the deal, having them replace the oil pan gasket. And then you’ll see if there’s any other leaks if they’re (I don’t want to say lying but) lying about what they claim.

It's just something they found during the PPI.
Considering it's a 1 on a 1-10 scale I'd say it's just starting to keak so it's really not that serious at the moment. But iT is a leak and will not fix itself. I agree with the previous post, bring it up and see if they can work it into the deal.

I just had my replaced, and it cost my after-market warranty 2.5K after taxes. My car is a 2016 M4 with 79k miles.

Work it into the deal. (Either have them replace it or have them take the price of the parts + labor off the price of the car.) Granted, they probably won't take 2 G's off but if they can take $1,000 to $1,500 off. I'd say that's pretty good.

I agree with everyone else though. It's not an urgent fix and it's something you can worry about later when it starts to become a bigger problem.

Think of it this way: if you were to bring your car into the dealership for routine maintenance, what do you think they would recommend you do? More often than not it be a “should get done” situation. Same if it this was under warranty.

I just had this done on my 2015. It wasn’t bad enough that it ever left evidence on my garage floor, but the tech noticed it while doing my alignment. Aftermarket warranty paid for the whole thing, $3805.

I’d see if the dealer will comp you an aftermarket warranty. This way, you can wait a month or two and then get the pan fixed under warranty, plus now you are covered for some period of time for any future issues. Seems a smarter play than having them just fix the known issue at the moment.

My warranty was expiring and I had seen the pan with a sweating with a few drops. Nothing big but since I am keeping this thing longer had it fix. Either way warranty fixed it.
