Recall on M2, M3, M4 Subframe bolts

Looks like those with rear diff service prior to delivery might be impacted:

Only the cars that had their rear differential recalled were effected. The cars originally were halted from delivery, and eventually had their differentials replaced, however the bolt in question was not supplied as part of the original recall work. This bolt should be replaced whenever the subframe is removed.

How do you know if you were impacted by the rear diff recall?

Also, little confused about this. Are you sure the bolt replacement is only for recalled cars?

Great... so instead of our diffs just being noisy after 12k miles, they're now on the verge of falling out at anytime.

Yippee...

Oh good. I get to bitch about some more stuff to BMW. I guess I'll give my dealer a call about this and the service department will have no idea about it until a week from today.

Call your CA or Genius. They should be able to tell you whether you are impacted. Also if your production date falls outside May-July '16, you are fine.

Is there an easy way to find out production date? I got mine off the lot.

You can find your production month by going to www.realoem.com and putting in the last 7 of your VIN. I don't think it will give you the exact dates during the month however.

I'm hoping my car is ok since the rear diff replacement was delayed a couple of days because they had to special order some new bolts... I wonder if that was noted or if they're just going to want to replace all the bolts for anyone that had a rear diff replaced.

Uh oh... i just checked my vin on realoem. it says my production date is 07/2015 ... Does this mean I might be impacted by the recall since it falls within that dates?!?!?!

Production date is also on the sticker in the driver's door jam. That's the easiest way to find it.

And the original diff recall was ~200 cars.

Recall/mandatory replacement... does it really matter what we call it?
