Oil change indiator comes on after only 1300 miles

I'm not a BMW newb so I'm familiar with how the service interval indicator works on modern BMW. Which is why I'm a little puzzled...

I got my M3 in Sep 2016, did the 1,200 miles break in service in Nov 2016. The oil service light lit up again when the car hit about 2,500 miles. The car has seen only daily commute and no track use so I don't think it is an oil quality issue. The service interval was set for Feb 2017... Is this simply a case of the dealer not resetting the service reminder properly after the break in service? Or they did it on purpose so I will bring it back and they can fleece BMW for another oil change?

Pretty sure that was a mistake on resetting the service interval.. After the run in service at 1200 miles the next one should be roughly 10k miles / 1 year away. In my case it was 1 year / 10k miles from the day I picked up the car or 10 months from the 1200 run in service.

Garage List
In May 2016 I had my 1200 mile break-in service done in Stuttgart during my Euro Delivery with just over 1200 miles (2000 km) on the odometer. At redelivery my car showed around 3000 miles and the CBS showed 7000 miles until the next oil change in May 2017.

I had wanted to change the oil around 6200 miles (5000 miles after the break-in oil change), but the holidays got in the way and I didn't change it until around 7500 miles. (I track the car and wanted to do an interim baseline oil change to take an oil sample for Blackstone.) Before the oil change the CBS was still showing May 2017 and around 5000 miles.

After I did the oil change at 7700 miles, the CBS was suddenly showing only about 1000 miles until the next oil change. I don't understand why this changed so drastically, especially right after I had done the interim oil change. I ended up taking the car to the dealer at 10500 miles for the scheduled oil change. I'll be doing another interim oil change at 15000 miles.
