I just joined the club as well. I saw this straight gutted line in the middle of my wheels. This is very disappointing and I just got the car last week.

I have this same problem on my front wheels only. Has anyone had other high performance cars with the same problem? BMW is not the only car company that has brakes that fill up the whole entire wheel.

I've seen this same thing happen on several other cars. Gallardo Superleggeras experience this quite often.

Large Inner Barrel = No CCB Clearance Issue

Signature Motorsport Designed Monoblocks have extremely large inner barrels. Big Brakes welcome. Our Z06 owners even use our Monoblock 18" with their OEM 394mm CCB.

Bringing this one back from the dead...

I noticed BMW does not offer these brakes on the M3 anymore.

I tried to build one no the BMW site and it was not available. Go figure.

Racing Brake is working on a 380 mm CCB kit that will fit inside of a lot of 18" wheels. We'll be posting a thread on it when we start putting parts on a car.

Is this really the case? Isn't the M4 in production for another couple of years? Isn't the retrofit kit the same between the M3 & M4?

This is one of those dreadful topics that people working hard for their vision see it crushed by a mid-level manager someone at M whom did not bother realize that most world roads are not pool-table flat and clean as in Germany.

I think 19" BBS HRE or the actual maker, Ray's (whom makes these top wheels on their 10,000 ton press in Japan and asks half the price), are 30-40 lbs lighter all around, stronger etc and the true wheel-based solution to the issue.

Calliper based-solution: HAS ANYONE CONSIDERED USING FELT PADS glued to the callipers? Two years ago, encountered a similar spacing issue on a high end carbon road bicycle, and had a problem to fill a gap and prevent stuff going in: high grade alloy rotating crank 4-5 mm away from carbon, things get stuck at 40km/hr and one strips paint and carbon. I discovered that Felt pads, glued with 3M weather-strip glue, Conti tubular glue paste etc (it is also heat resistant), fil the gap 100% and problem never returned.

Those absolutely wishing to keep the BMW 19" look, perhaps this is the ultimate solution? Add 6mm ones, so wider than the gap, mount the wheel, and the first meters the felt compress and reduces that gap sub 0.2-0.5mm. NOTHING goes in. In addition, the felt's will adopt the powder colour so they will become invisible, or just buy the brown ones.

HOPE THIS WORKS.

Here's mine. Sucks BMW is not addressing this flaw. I was told a front wheel lists for $1,575 Canadian at full retail....no bloody way I should be footing the bill.
Brutal experience. Have you had a chance to read my post on using felt as a solution? Or hopefully the issue resolved since your initial post.

Any updates on this issue, chaps? Looking at an M4CS (stock staggered 19/20 setup on 763Ms) or loaded ZCP (20" square 666M setup), and trying to decide between the regular and ceramic brakes. Anyone out there with 20" 666Ms having this issue with steel brakes? Folks had mentioned issues with steels earlier in the thread, but it seems like that was with non-ZCP 18" wheels?

I have 20" wheels and there is not much clearance on the front. Looks like about 1/4" between the caliper and the inside of the wheel. So far I have no scratches or chips on the wheel or the calipers. My M4 is about year old 9k miles.

BMW M3 M4 Carbon Ceramic Brakes Problems;

I reported this issue in Feb, it's now occurred 3 times on different OEM wheels.

The design clearance of the CCB to Standard 19" wheel rim is only ~5mm in places. This means that any small road stones larger than ~5mm will cause damage most road debris is easily this size. The tyres when dry pickup the stones into the wheel arch where they get thrown into the wheel. The issue is that the brake shield (steel pressing) which is unique to CCB application is inadequate to prevent the ingress of road stones into the central wheel area. You can see strong engineering development evidence in this CCB plate compared to standard brake plate on steels. It's obviously been a major issue during development phase and now BMW is having field reports / warranty on this. Worst damage was a 2 mm groove, which was a safety concern at dealer expert inspection.
No fix or containment has yet been announced. Any other similar experiences ? Would like to hear from you?
Looks like the guys at Pagani and Koenigsegg already thought about this
