Pics added - After an E92 M3 and my current F82 M4 it's GT3 time
Just a note to say thanks for all the interesting posts and information on this site. I've enjoyed both my M cars, having taken the former to the 'ring twice but I've always wanted a Porsche and this year I have been lucky enough to pull enough funds to afford a GT3. It's a 997.2 model and my first 'investment' car, although I will drive it a lot.
I'm due to pick it up on Friday and will post pics when it's sunny and clean. Take care guys. Bob Last edited by Bob Santorini; 03-25-2017 at 12:43 PM.. Reason: Pictures added |

I think the 997 GT3RS still has "investment" value, not so sure about the 997.2 GT3 however. You should be able to retain your money in that car though depending on current mileage and how many you put on in the future but yeah I think all attention is on the 991.2 GT3 now starting at $143k. I can't see any intrinsic value in the 997 GT3 anymore that would command a rise in prices that would begin to approach that, but who knows.
But it doesn't sound like you bought it to look at and with access to the Ring you'll have a blast with that car. Regardless of future value it's still a GT3 and an awesome car to own. |

Thanks. My investment comment was really just an opportunity and I'm aware of what the 991.2 may do to future values now that the manuals are back.
I did consider waiting but I tend to jump when funds allow and when the right vehicle comes up. Primarily I've bought it to drive as it's a dream car for me and if it loses money I won't be too upset as i'm used to it having had a couple of new M cars. A couple more sleeps to go... Cheers for the comments! Bob |

I think there's always going to be Porsche aficionado's who find value in any GT3 so I think you'll do fine with that car. Like you said, worst case you lose a little money on it but your driving a GT3, or maybe even the more likely scenario it holds it value and you essentially drive it for free!
What color did you get anyway? I've always loved the GT3, wanted one but every time I got the itch it was between production cycles and as you know used ones haven't been depreciating. I just couldn't see myself paying MSRP or over for a used car...I like to find deals lol! |

Additionally, the 991.2 GT3 is likely to have a small take rate for manual. I'll be interested to see. The take rate of manuals on non GT 911s is only 5-7%. I ideally think the 991.2 will exceed that but may only be 10-12%, which still means very few manuals cars given the GT3 is a car produced in very small numbers (991 GT3 worldwide ~3300 cars). About 1/2 that to the US. |

My car is dark blue metallic and in dull weather looks almost black in photos.
It's ideal for me as I didn't want a bright coloured car this time. I agree on the mezger engine and that every model iteration seems to draw reason for collective value. As much as I love the 991 they are slightly too wide for my garage as I considered a 1yr old GTS (couldn't afford 991 GT3) and found the mirrors don't fold and therefore would be too close to the garage opening. The 997.2 GT3 is narrower and has folding mirrors (albeit manually foldable but I can fold the drivers side whilst backing in if necessary). Fingers crossed this time tomorrow!! |
