There are a few linked issues here I believe. Part user error, part software glitch.

First, the car has an programmable autohold e-emergency brake within the infotainment car settings menu, and there is a way to enable/disable the auto electronic emergency brake so it doesn't activate everytime the car shuts off. If there is ever a mechanical issue, you can disable that autohold feature via the infotainment, so the car can be placed into neutral for rolling it around or if ever towing. One may prefer a physical emergency hand brake, I know I do, but the system is actually pretty sophisticated....IF...one reads the owners manual. This is the user error part.

The second issue was a known software glitch with the remote start auto on/off feature on the car key. The software engineers have already fixed the issue and lumped that in with several other software feature updates. It is not a serious physical mechanical issue. It was thoughtful to include an optional remote start feature, but not all that useful thing on a car unlikely to be driven that often in sub freezing temperature environments...although, there is a video review of it on an ice track. Seems to have very good traction and balance with Winter Tires.

In Summary, to extrapolate one minor issue into wanting the car to have major reliability issues is just silly. However, only time will tell, but personally, I'm not to concerned.

Can you put it in neutral through the infotainment if there is no power going to the infotainment or the infotainment will not turn on as well?

Geez, I'm not positive. Although, there are a lot of different analog fail safes built into these more electronic cars.

In some ways, it's a comfortably analog car, but in other ways it has too much tech (auto e-brake, no permanent off setting for Auto stop/start, no independant on/off for stability program/traction control, etc.). There are many user interface flaws, or at least I call them flaws after experiencing a more intuitive user interface in the M3. I personally like infinite variability, as long as you can set it and forget it.

mc3456, congrats on the car by the way! It looks gorgeous inside and out. Most importantly it sounds like it is a really fun driving car.

other than the reliability though, it's great.

I'm waiting for our Alfa Romeo's Sean Spicer to spin this one as well.
this review was based on the Giulia Ti? correct?...just read the report...yes the Ti....the dangling brake wear sensor is on the dealer IMHO...when they get these cars they should be going over them to insure everything is where its is supposed to be or things that should be removed (suspension blocks) are...it's no secret that stuff happens in transit...
as far as the CEL & sunroof...well those are gremlins that need to be addressed by Alfa immediately and make software updates available quickly...
as far as the comments about seat comfort, heating, control knobs...that for me is more subjective...
but ANY car maker will def. want CR's seal of approval from a reliability perspective for sure

It is a very fun car. Rides surprisingly smooth and is quiet inside when you want it to be or flip to Race Mode to open exhausts 100% and it is very exotic sounding. Can't wait for warmer weather and clean roads.

Hard to rely on the opinion of any media source that values the number of cupholders among their main criteria. Heck, they'd likely choose a Prius over an M3 on some crazy criteria like the cost of replacement tires and engine noise heard inside the car. CR is fine for reviewing toasters and food blenders, but that's about it.

LOL, this isn't even a CR review. They were just telling it like it is... if something doesn't work, it doesn't work! It's not an opinion, it's a fact.

Like I said, it's the elephant in the room for Alfa. They've always had reliability issues, this isn't anything new. The hope is they've changed but that may be more wishful thinking.

completely right, it is a great second car. Not a primary hauler at this point.

My workout buddie/business partner's fiancé was at the gym Friday night and he told her I was heading to Thailand Wednesday to celebrate birthday there.

They are 28/29. She asked how old. I said "old," paused a moment and said "50." She said, "yeah, that is old" without missing a beat.

Our business . . . Anti-aging, esthician and HRT clinics . . . She is a Nurse Practioner at one of them.

Well, they picked the wrong parent company if quality improvement was their goal.
