Leaked infos about the M3/M4 - engine/weight !?

Posted from an proven insider at an german forum !!!

FAKTS:
3.3ltr.V6.
3.296ccm
3-way-charging ... my guess BiTurbo with eTurbo-System
Power output 430hp (on the paper) 450+hp for real (german hp!)
Torque 580Nm
Redline 7.800U/min
EU-Weight: 1483 kg (F80)

There are strange rumors that the leaked "S55" 3.0ltr.I6 with 415hp was an misinformation campaign special for internet forums.

Are these rumors from the Autobild source, or a different source? How plausible do people think this is given everyone's feelings about being an inline 6 and do any of the previous engine photos shed any light on this?

The rumors that refuse to die, V6 and tri-turbo. Cool if it's true however if we get a sub 3300 lbs car with hydraulic steering I'll be cool with if they dust off the E30 M3 tools and turbo charge the old 4-banger

580nm ~ 425 ft/lb
1483kg ~ 3270 lbs

I'd say hydraulic steering is about as likely as a V6. Not very likely but not very unlikely either. The new M5 and M6 has hydraulic steering for example. No BMW has ever had a V6. However the V6 size in this "leak" is that of the M5's S63tu with two cylinders lopped off, pretty much what they did with the E60 M5's V10 to create the S65... It's likely just guesses down these lines but it is intriguing.

Is this is true, it is nothing special as that is what I have been saying before any M3 mule was spotted, about three years ago.

V6, Bmw will not use V6 layot, not today and not tomorrow, its same that Porsche decide to make V6 911. Whit V6 911 will be faster, but nobody will buy it, same that you "rent" racecar driver to drive your car on track, because car goes faster whit race driver skills. You sit on passenger site and enjoy fast driving.

911 whit Ruf V8 have lower center gravity than 911 Flat six. Boxer engine is very heavy actually. So I think V6tt is also got low center gravity and this means car will be faster on theory.

This makes no sense to me. If replacing the beloved E9X M3, and competing with existing models like the C63, shouldn't HP be significantly higher (I have 475 or 500 in my head). I know, I know...it will be lighter than the AMG and so on and so forth, but still...would have thought they go a little higher.

I am not an engineer and I am by no means an authority on engines, but the image of the next generation M3/M4 engine looks similar to me in comparison to the f30 N55 engine. It looks like the oil filter module is in the same place. The air intake box on the drivers side of the engine bay looks very similar and there appears to be another air intake box added on the passenger side of the engine bay. If I would have to guess, this would make me feel that this is most likely an inline engine and a derivative of the N55 as opposed to a V6. Any thoughts?

Any data to prove you point?

Of course that is an I6 engine. Outside some at BMW, nobody has seen the V6, and will probably never see, if BMW really chose what was obvious, the I6.

These rumors are from 3 different sources ... AutoBild is one of them.

The technical points are nearly the same, but one source says neutral 6-Cylinder (AutoBild) ... one clearly V6 (most probably an M-GmbH insider - posted also pics of the F80 brake calibers) ... and the third R6, but with the same facts incl. the exact ccm number - what seems not possible(!?)

According to my informations it could be possible, that an V6 and an I6 were developed side by side ... and the I6 was later used for fake leaks to hide the choosen V6 ... has no one wonder about how such perfekt pics could be leaked?

That is a very good point. Anything is possible, and I do like the numbers that are being tossed around for output, etc. Hopefully, as we get closer, more and more stuff will keep trickling in. I truly love the feeling of an engine with torque and that is what I look forward to enjoying in the M4 compared to the M3 (no disrespect meant to the current M3).

No data or fact that V6tt has lower center gravity than flat six, but RUF V8 911 has lower center gravity than flat six 911.

weight is everything.

Even with 430hp and it being light weight it could do some serious damage or even compete with AMG in straight line performance.

I can't quite get myself to believe BMW would be that devious. Devious, yes, but not that devious.
More than that, though, if their purpose, in the end, is to sell cars, then how, in their mind, would this elaborate deception increase sales? After all, most future M3/M4 buyers aren't even paying attention to what's under the hood.
I like the way your suspicious, though.
