maybe, but then I guess I don't want a dual purpose car. The e9x had real personality always. super grumpy under 50mph, then became a monster above it. That car felt alive.

The f8x performs better, and it's definitely fun to sport drive, but it does it all with zero personality: it's never happy or sad, it just is doing what you're doing. It's a robot dog.

If that's the trade off, then I'll take a single purpose car that's always badass.

If there isn't a 6MT option then I'm buying out my current lease and purchasing extended warranty. Don't care how fast or good looking it is by then. I can't stand automatics. 17 years straight of driving manuals ain't stopping here.

Yea, agreed. An all out out pure sports car is the best

But if you can only have 1 car and need 5 seats, f80 is the answer in my books. The cooling system, big power, fender flares and cf roof are

Nope. I bought the F80 6MT with the intention of keeping it the rest of my life.

Completely agree Gruss. I love my F80 but really miss my E90 M3 My favorite car I have ever owned.

Sorry - maybe I was not very clear. I was not intending to call the F8x soul-less. I love this car so much!

I always drive around in Sport+, DSC reduced (only full off when I'm not on the street and sometimes with summer tires on and good weather). The car is fun this way even on the street. I don't really understand it when people say they drive around in comfort for everything.

I’m with you. Not sure what people are smoking when they say the E90 was more soulful driving around the city at low speeds. It was somewhat gutless, what it was. You could get surprised by a determined mom in a Honda Odyssey if you weren’t paying attention.

What it did, undoubtedly, is emit expensive racing-sounding noises from the engine compartment. Unfortunately those noises turned into actual expenses as time went on.

To be clear, the suspension and general chassis demeanor of the E90 was more relaxed/softer than that of the F80. I drive on some horrendous city streets in the DC area and my love handle jolt-o-meter is registering higher in the F80. But, just as the expensive sounding engine was part of the E90 character, the tighter chassis/stiffer demeanor is part of the F80 character. They are things to be savored as distinct and unique flavors, not flaws, IMO.

Yes dear. I was alive then. The greatest was the quarter fabric tops.

I kinda like the idea of a fabric top again, at least it doesn't take up most of the trunk like the hard top does. Being it is my only car, I need the trunk space.

So go get another one?

I'd consider an E92 M3. Prefer the look of it over the F82.

I'll hold onto my F80 at least until the first LCI /comp pack is released for the G.

Fulfilled a must-do/YOLO/#goalz with my recent acquisition. I'll probably hang onto this one for awhile.

Then complain the car is boring...or that it's slow when they are not using full throttle and sub 5k rpm.

so, regarding the G series m3, do we know if the dimensions with stay the same? I can't get it if it's longer than the current 185" due to garage space constraints

Hope the Supra comes with s55 because that would be my choice of m car

Now, 4 years later, I saw a beautiful individual E92 last Friday and beyond the angel eyes I thought it looked great, not outdated, so ...

Anyway, the F8x is "better", certainly in performance, interior, etc, however it's also missing the soul of E9x ... Plus the 2018s are wussified, albeit better performers when driven in anger.

So, I'll be looking forward to the G8x ... especially if they can put the soul back.

100% agree with this, my Dad had an e92 M3 from new in 2008 until 2013 and by the time he sold it we both agreed it looked plain and dated.

Fast forwards 5 years again, and just yesterday I went to view and drive an e92 Comp pack coupe and we both agreed it looked absolutely fantastic, not dated at all and sounded and drove absolutely superb.

All in all, im not sure weather I’ll go G80, M2 Comp, or even just back to a late, low miler e92 and be happy knowing that it’s depreciation proof and has that V8 glorious powerhouse.

The Toyota ///M. I can't even believe that's a possible reality.

I will be watching this. I think there is zero chance it comes with S55 off the bat. But maybe as a last year or two special edition model it will come with the G80 M3 motor. Who knows...

Less weight plus more power equals more fun.

BMW scared to death of Tesla, thus ready to sell soul to Toyota for electric car know-how.

I am not holding my breath too much, because BMW's "all out factory track car" M4 GTS was kind of a bust and Toyota hasn't had a credible sports car in 20 yr

Not to mention I had an E89 Z435 and it was pretty much a fail as a sports car despite being a Boxster S competitor on paper

But hey, you never know
