Downtown commute in M?

Would you take your M to downtown every day for job? Assuming the work place has a proper parking facility is it worth driving the M in downtown traffic every day and put miles or buy a cheap DD ?

How many miles each way, etc? What country, city?

In Brussels I had a 4 mile commute each way. Drove M most of the time due to the low miles. Moved to Cali and will have 35 miles each way. Will do van pool, ride moto and or get a beater. Not racking up those boring miles on the M and depreciating it for that...even considering to sell it as it's not garage queen material either.

BL - do your own analysis for your situation and if it makes sense then the F8x is a great DD.

I would either drive it or replace it with something you are willing to drive without worrying. I'm not a big fan of driving a crappy car while keeping a nice one in the garage.

Marta is not an option due to the 85 issue and parking the M in the marta station is a bad idea

I commute 40 miles round trip everyday to/from work, including sitting in soul-sucking 0 - 10 mph traffic for large portions of it...but I gladly do it sitting in my M.

I used to park my m on a ghetto street, because it was free. Never had any issues, and saved $1800 a year. Let's be honest 95% of us trade in our cars when something new comes out. I don't think mileage matters as much compared to the depreciation. And Door dings, minor scratches, curb rash - none of this matters to the dealer during trade in. You should be driving it as a DD, because you pay for that privilege.

Downtown Atlanta is great to drive in. Potholes, a$$holes and enough metal plates to build a ship.

I live in midtown and drive 25 miles commuting per day. Just enjoy it.

And hurry up with I85!! I loved driving the Buford Connector at night coming off the corner from midtown to long straight. Screams floor me!

My commute is ~80miles roundtrip / day and did it with the 435d without worring about mileage.

When my M4 comes, I plan to do the same.
The whole appeal of the car is that it's a DD with tracking abilities!

The news make it seem like carjacking is somewhat common in Atlanta, so I would be hesitant. forget about the mileage and possibility of car damage... don't get targeted because of your car!!

True but if there a good parking facility i dont think that would be an issue, isnt it?

Thanks guys for all the responses , my worry is not about putting on mileage/ wear and tear etc but whether its safe to drive to downtown in the M , i would love to drive up north atlanta in less traffic but not really sure about driving it daily to south atlanta in crazy traffic specially downtown.

while this may be true, the OP has a 6MT. odds are he/she's safe enough as is with that tranny. we get two or three stories a year here in FL about carjackings being spoiled because of the manual. it's my built in theft deterrent.

For that story to hit the news that means the car jacking was started then aborted. I don't love driving my car enough to risk having a fire arm pointed at me because of it.

I don't know OP, about the ATL situation having only visited for work and never lived there.

For what it's worth, I am biased on this topic and in the process of getting a beater electric car so I don't drive or park in sketchy parts of SF Bay Area.
