older stories from the announcement mentioned the stock S55 engine from the M3/M4, not the GTS

No, teams like Turner, Fall Line, etc are still waiting for the car. It will debut in Continental Tire Series next season, along with other series.

Isn't it too late in the model life thoug? it will be out there for what, 1 year tops?

How can BMW evolve, refine and improve the race car if they don't race it for long?? To me that is somewhat of a disappointment, almost as if they are ashamed of it and don't want it exposed to sunlight for too long.

Just to clear up some confusion is this thread. The GT4 is not going to be street legal or have a street legal counterpart. This car is to compete in Series that follow FIA GT4 regulations. In the US that includes Continental Tire Series and Pirelli World Challenge.

Some of the cars it will be competing against.

McLaren 570S GT4

Ford Mustang GT4

Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R

Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Aston Martin Vantage GT4

KTM Xbow GT4

Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4

Basically an S55 plucked right out of a street legal M4. A governing body like IMSA will control BoP, with boost, air restrictor, fuel cell size, rpm limits. Turbo engines must run stock size turbo(s).

It kind of crazy that the engine looks to maintain a lot of the stock ancillaries (IC, vibration damper, etc...)

I spy what looks like stock charge pipes on that motor, hmm and downpipes with flex. Wonder what boost levels and power it will be making?
