Exhaust valve noise

I know this has been discussed before but the only solution I see was replace the full exhaust under warranty

What I am experiencing is after changing to Akrapovic exhaust and installed the factory exhaust valve module. Cold start remain having that tin can noise for about a min than gone. I am ok with that as it is how the design is.

When I am driving with windows down. and press the gas a little bit more, I can hear the exhaust vlave moving and making the tin can noise.

Is there a solution to fix this as I see someone mention before that the exhaust valve can be tighten .... is that possible? or has someone find a fix for it

Thanks
Gilbert

its not related to being tuned. its if you have the ability to keep the flaps fully open at all times via canflap / jb4/ bm3 etc

Myself and a couple of others were running into the same exact issue. We brought it up to the tuner (PTF) and they sent over an updated map in which completely eliminated the rattle. It looks like there was something going on with the WG's.

When installing if the clip from the Electronic Valve and actuator isn't pre-loaded then that rattling sound may happen. The reason for this is that the valve won't be shut all the way and will rattle with the exhaust flow.

Can you give me some insight please on what you mean by preload the actuator

You have to make sure the actuator has tension/preload in order for the valve to be closed all the way. Clip/spring if worn out may cause rattling/fluttering as well. Here's a video of us installing the Actuator on one of our systems.

I think I figure out where the problem is for my valve to vibrate. It seems the vibration is up and down and not the valve flapping open and close

I attached the picture of what I found is the locking ring not secure which cause the valve to have play up and down to create the rattling

I'm glad you found the answer to your problem. Did you find a fix for it by chance?

LOL the sound came back but i finally know what the issue is, cause for the F80 series, the part I circle was the ring that clip on the valve open and close section and there are some free play. I believe even when i tighten the actuator, i can still move the clip left and right.

What I am planning to do is to put a high tempt condom rubber material (if i can find something like that) and put it on top of the exhaust valve clip, than put the ring over it, so that it eliminate the vibrating clunk sound.

Hope my theory will work haha, but i need to find the material and time to do it haha

FINALLY got this fix, as i said before, we hear the rattling is because the exhaust valve is actually moving up and down due to some free play. What I did was to add one washer and 2 o-ring to make the valve even more tighter so that when the engine start, it will not allow the valve to move up and down.

I have posted some pictures as below. Hope this will help anyone having this issue.

This is what you see when you take out the electronic valve and cover.

I got some washer, and drill to make the hole wider so that i can fit in

I than put a oring on top to act as suspension

Now the sound is gone. Happy this is working.

Any updates on the exhaust rattle? I have a 2018 M3 with m performance exhaust. I have the cold start rattle. It goes away after about a minute of idling.

Has it been determined for sure that it's the valves?

So I had this rattling sound coming from the back of my car. I thought it was coming from the diff this whole time. Still think it could be the clutch plates. Not sure.

Now it starts rattling for about a sec on cold start. It continues to rattle when I'm driving until the engine and exhaust warms up. And it happens when it's cold or cooler out. What does everyone think it could be. My MPE exhaust was replaced about a year and a half ago.
