Usually failures of epoxy have to do with poor prep of the slab, insufficient curing time and driving on it with scorching hot tires.

Beautiful! Truly beautiful congrats man!

Look into this stuff. http://www.apfepoxy.com/system-armor-rez-hdq-135

Granulated quartz. The next step above the basic epoxy paint coatings. Both are still good but we use this in our commercial kitchens and its damn near indestructible.

congrats garage looks amazing. I have epoxy in my warehouse (we do construction) so theres always a forklift running around getting small equipment off shelving and such and it holds up great. prep is the most important. on a new slab like yours it make prep so much easier. we had to blast our floor with a shot blast machine, this machine shoots tiny metal pellets at the floor and then they ran a diamond grinder over it, after vacuuming up the whole space they layed a primer down and came the next day and applied the regular coat down. as long as you have a professional install it I believe its the best option for a garage floor its very durable and you can make it unique with flake in the floor and any color you want

Porcelain tile is also a great option for garage floors.

Huh, doesn't seem like a great idea? Drop something heavy on the tile and they will crack. Awkward to roll things on too, like floor jacks etc.

I moved into this home about 18 months ago: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1262890

The house garage has epoxy floors which looks nice, gotta be really careful if it's wet though. The large detached garage/shop has painted concrete floors which I actually prefer for working on.

OP: congrats on the sweet garage! It will fill up faster than you realize.

No, porcelain tile comes Traffic rated (level 5) and is impermeable. It is the standard spec in all Porsche dealership garages. It won?t crack LOL!

Working on the walls at the moment. I got the insulation in, plywood on the walls, and the first wall treatment, aluminum diamond sheets in black. That is along the bottom 3 feet of the walls. On the top 5 feet I'm going with gray slatwall around the inside. The slatwall is all that is left to do on the walls (which I should finish next week). I'll post some pics as the inside progressed once I'm done.

At this point I'm just leaving the floor as is. I can deal with it later if I need/want to.

Thanks!

Doesn't really look like a viable option as the angled roof presumably means only space in the center of the garage - also the current garage door doesn't allow you to angle the door up so again would negate lift use? The one fortunate thing with my garage was that on elevating my house I also elevated the garage leaving the garage slab where it was - makes for a huge vertical space that can hold two cars on a dual lift and allows the garage door to raise vertically with only one panel horizontal i.e. no interference with raised cars.

OP - beautiful result - what are your plans for the upper area or are you leaving it as is - no second floor storage?

Some pics of what I was trying to describe - all sorts of crap on lift in old pic - all cleaned up now!

Nothing really for the upper area. It was designed to really just be attic space that we can use for extra storage. A lift would definitely not work, just not tall enough. For now I like the exposed beams and am leaving it as is. If it gets too cold in there I'll have to put a ceiling in and insulate. We'll see how this first winter goes. But for now I'm leaving it as it is.

BMW uses tile in their service bays too, although they use ceramic clinker tile. Made by these guys if I'm not mistaken: http://www.argelith.de/us/products/ceramic-clinker.html

OP, the new garage....and driveway look great!!! How's the view from the cockpit looking out the door?? The fact you have plenty of room on each side of your car is excellent. Enjoy and keep us posted on the interior modifications. Check out Obsessed garage on Youtube for some ideas. He is a bit long in the tooth, but very methodical and detail oriented.

I finally finished the interior (at least for now) of my new garage. The plan the entire time was to finish the inside myself with as little help as possible. I've never been the handiest guy around, but felt like I could learn a lot by doing something like this. I also figured I would appreciate it more if I did it myself, and hey it's a garage, if it's not perfect it's not the end of the world. And to be clear, it's not perfect. There are things that didn't go exactly as I wanted them, but I'm proud of myself for doing it and I think it looks pretty damn cool. I took pictures in stages again. Enjoy!

First step was to insulate the walls. Without the ceiling finished or insulated it doesn't actually help, but I figured if I ever wanted to heat or cool it I'd have to insulate, so what better time to do it when it's down to the studs. If I never heat or cool it no big deal, it cost a couple hundred dollars and a day to do. Plus I bought an electric stapler and more fun I could not have using that thing! Again, a learning experience for me.

The next step was to cover the walls. I opted against drywall for a few reasons. The main being that I really didn't want to have to deal with all of the seals and the taping and sanding. I went with 1/2" plywood. It was less expensive and I didn't really care if it looked perfect, it would be mostly covered up anyway. Plus the areas that were not covered would match the look of the exposed beams in the ceiling.

The next step would be to put black aluminum sheeting to the bottom 36" of the walls. Is it functional? No. Is it cool? Hell yeah. I've never cut metal sheets before, so again, this was something new to learn.

Next it was time to put the slat wall in. This would be very functional, as I can hang just about anything on the walls and keep the floor clear. I bought the ProSlat brand that Home Depot and Amazon sell. This wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

The last step was to buy some new cabinets. I bought some red cabinets from a brand called NewAge Products. They have several lines, but they got great reviews and were reasonably priced. I got a few I could hang on the walls, one large standing locker, and a three piece work table. I moved in my stuff and for now, the garage is done.

When I did need help my wife was very helpful, and a friend of mine at work lent me his pickup truck to pick up the plywood and insulation. Other than that, I feel pretty good about how it turned out.

It looks good. I personally would have opted for drywall. Just get someone else to tape, mud, sand then prime it afterwards for a few hundred. Since it may go non-temperature control, I would imagine plywood may be prone to flex and drying out and possibly crack. It's still cool to have that extra garage space though.

I guess that's possible, but I was worried about mold with drywall, since it's probably more prone to moisture than an interior wall. I did talk with a few people who did their garages (including the builder), they all felt plywood would suffice.
