I have never made an appointment to test drive any cars in my life. I've been rejected from getting a test drive only once, but because I told the SA I was looking for a car within 9 months, so he wasn't motivated. Also he was a major d-bag, incredibly condescending. He also barely knew anything about the M3 he was selling... and he had one himself!

Test drove one about 5 times - 4 of them DCT, 1 a 6MT. Ordered a 6MT. Never scheduled - just turned up. But my dealer typically has 6 or 7 on the lot at a time.

Yes, I did. I set it up for a warm sunny morning. I was dealing with a senior member of the sales team and he encouraged me to take it for a good long drive. No pressure and a very enjoyable sales experience from purchase to delivery. The car sold itself.

So true!!! This is my first M car. I have a 2013 335i that the wife ended up keeping. The 335i is a GREAT and fast car so i felt no need to test drive an M4. Ps: i always thought it would be hard to have dealers allow you to test drive a car this caliber. |

Wanted to test drive a used F80 sitting in a local dealers showroom. Made an appointment to see it and then they wouldn't let me drive it until we negotiated a sales price. When they wouldn't budge more than $500 below their asking price I left. Car sat in their showroom for 5 more months before it was sold for a much more significant discount than $500. I bought an identical car from a member here a few weeks later.

I went to the dealership wanting to know when the cut-off was to order the M3. We talked for about 45 minutes about prices and options...looked at a few that were on the showroom and then scheduled a test drive a few days later (with the wife in the passenger seat!) After that...went and got the paperwork signed and my car ordered!

I went to a used car dealer to test drive, since the car is used and they are less picky about how you push the cars. Less hassle too since they just want to move the units. New cars I can see dealers being more anal about it especially if you don't look like you rich enough to afford the car.

I went to CarMax to test drive. They will let you drive anything on their lot. But reserve the car online so its available when you get there. Those sales guys never get to drive the fun car much so they will love to take you out in a M3 or M4.
Or look at the used inventory on a BMW dealerships lots. I don't blame dealerships for not letting people test drive new cars. I wouldn't buy a new car with more than 10 miles on it. You can also rent a M3 or M4 for a few day for pretty cheap on TURO.com That way you can test it out for a few days. Cheers Zoom Zoom |

Most salesman just want to do business and it’s reasonable to not want to waste time on a sale that can’t happen. A lot depends on your approach and what you happen to drive up in.All dealerships try to prequalify no matter what car you are trying to buy.Every now and then it’s slow in sales and they don’t mind putting the time in with you if it might lead to a sale in the future. When they are slammed they have a manager that will only allocate his time to deals that are happening that day.
It’s just business and don’t assume that if you roll up in a $ 200k car you leased for 3 years and you are a few months into it that you are qualified.Your credit worthiness is there but your deal is impossible and they might not want you to test drive that $80k car. |

Tried at two dealers in 2015, first one said they had no M3 demo, second said they would not allow test drive of M3 because I might damage it. I am NOT even close to my 20's. My advice do ED and it REALLY pays to shop around. I have also experienced a great dealer whose service department could care less about the car.. did not enter service done into the car's onboard record and made me wait a month to schedule the warranty oil change. Went to another dealer for the oil change etc. very nice, got an appointment in two days....Just sayin' you only get what you pay for if you are lucky.

No, I just show up. I rarely know when I'm going to have free time, so it's easier to just wing it. Finally drove a DCT last Friday when I got out early and had some time to kill, and now I'm not sure I want the 6MT! Decisions, decisions...

I've walked into Porsche dealership and test driven multiple cars. No issues.
I've walked into Lamborghini dealership and test driven multiple brands new cars. No issues. I've never been able to test drive a new Nissan GTR. Go figure. In my experience, some BMW dealers won't let you test drive an M car and some will just throw you the keys and tell you to go have fun.

I walked into the dealership and fell in love with the black M3 they had sitting in the middle of the showroom. Had a white bow on the hood, lol.
I test drove it. Home.

I made a appt to go over #'s, sat in it, he cranked it bc he was trying to get me to add on the M exhaust. He was going to let me drive it but had to move like 5 cars to get it out, said nvm, don't waste ur time on that, go start the paperwork.

Ive never made an appointment to test drive anything and I dont think I've ever been rejected either.
I don't really think I could buy a car without driving it first, although, this time last year, I was very close to buying an rs3 without even seeing. The no manual option dissuaded me, and I'm glad it did. No I have my f80.

I test drove M4. I think they let me because I had bought 2 cars from them in the past. Bought M3. Another on order. ZCP this time.

Haven't test driven a BMW in over 7 yrs, or stepped foot in a dealership to order in 13 years. The benefits of the ordering guide available online and e-mail. Didn't faze me ordering $208,000+ worth of BMW's this go around site unseen. F83 ZCP would have been looking for needle in a haystack and not a lot of F85's sitting around lots. Local dealer can't match my out of state SM, so why waste their time? Best bet is a F80 for a test drive, but good luck trying to test drive a CS.
