Shelly BMW needs almost a week's notice to get a loaner, they don't have enough IMHO. McKenna Norwalk seems to always be ready to take my car in with a loaner waiting for me, and they have a better selection. I wouldn't be surprised if SMBMD is like the former, they just don't have enough cars. I would raise a big giant stink about it, and they should drop off a loaner for you RIGHT NOW at your house if the car is still in.

Didn't post yesterday because I had to calm myself. The dealer called at 3pm and said it wasn't the battery and was gonna continue inspecting. An hour later they sent photos of my engine bay wire harnesses showing that they had been chewed up by rats and gave me a quote for $5k in repairs. Insurance is covering it but I am still baffled as to how this is a thing and how it took 2 days to figure out. Now it's another 2 days to install new wiring.

Well they found your problem so I would thank them. I'd be worried about the rats. Whats going on in your garage? set traps and turn on a small radio in the garage to keep them out. Those little rodents hate noise.

holy sht. I'm guessing that the harness is encased so you can't easily diagnose it, but then how did the rats get in? Time to call the exterminator.

Do you park inside garage and if so u shud see rat droppings or signs of rats in your garage and u need to take care of that ASAP.

Also i would find out if the issue happened at dealership because ur car was parked there few days for troubleshooting.

Which insurance covered it, auto or home?

It's probably field mice that chewed up the wiring harness. There's two reasons they like the wiring harness. First because the harness is soy based to appease the environmental SJW tree huggers out there. Second, those little fuckers need to gnaw on stuff as a form of dental maintenance because their teeth don't stop growing.

I'm impressed that insurance covered it.

And yes, was it home or auto?

That is some serious rat knowledge.

I thank the forum gods for people like you!

Curious.... Where did the "gnawing" occur? While these cars are obviously not air tight, with the under panels and such on this car, a rat or even a mouse would have to work a bit to get inside to where the harness wires are. Also, since your car is a daily and does not sit for extended periods of time, I am surprised that it was diagnosed as rats/mice as I thought they don't usually go into places that have not been stationary for a while....

I had the same problem. Rural property, didn’t have a space free in the garage when I initially purchased the vehicle. Long story short, had to file. Claim. Auto. Supposedly the Wiring harness and two other sets of wires all had to be replaced. Out the door for just over 3k.

OP definitely got the ‘special price’ lol
