Afternoon all. Just joined the forum today after trawling around looking for more F80 M3 photos. Some great looking cars on this thread, by the way!
I recently did a really daft thing and had a test drive of the F80 M3 on the UK launch day. After wrestling with my conscience for a week, trying to decide what to change my 335d touring for, I gave in... The alternatives I previously had in mind just wouldn't have hit the spot! So now I'm "patiently" waiting for my new wheels to arrive "sometime in September"... |

Thanks for the welcome, tisme.
I had the same with the (E46) 320d as well, which progressed to 330d, then a couple of 335d's. BMW has a nasty habit of relieving me of money every 2 or 3 years! Looking at the photos of your car I think I made the right choice of colour (for me), even though I've not actually seen SO in the flesh. I'll give my dealer a call today and try and find the likely build date for the new machine. |

Well it looks like I'll be seeing it in the flesh quite a bit earlier than I thought I was going to. Having just been in touch with the dealer he tells me it's actually built, so a 1st of September pick-up for me!

The new M3/M4 is truly awesome! I’ve completed just over 3000 miles in mine now – Helped by a 1300 mile round road trip through Wales last week to christen it on the A4069 (Black Mountain Pass), Evo triangle, B4391 etc etc…. I’ve concluded the best setup for B road blasting is as follows: Engine: Sport+ Suspension/Chassis: Sport Steering: Sport Transmission: D3/S3 Each of the dynamic modes (comfort, sport & sport+) for all of the systems i.e. engine, suspension, steering and transmission are so well judged. The car is a total monster (Max torque of 550Nm from 1850-5500rpm, Max power of 431hp from 5500-7300 rpm) when you want it to be and a very comfortable/quiet/practical/relatively economical cruiser when you don’t. One thing it absolutely does not require is a performance exhaust. In D3/S3 and Engine mode Sport+ at 4k rpm (you have to be on the move though- on start up/stationary the valves sound closed regardless of mode - hence all the bad video clips) all hell breaks loose and it goes absolutely mental – On a wall lined road/even better a tunnel, the sound is so loud and violent! I absolutely love this car and aside from a 911 Turbo, which puts greater emphasis on Sports car in the balance vs. practicality (+ is over twice the price!), I can’t think of another car that covers so many bases so well. Tip: Make sure you’re on a flat road with the rpm set at 3000 the first time you use Launch Control (DSC is fully off) – I was north of 4K on a slightly uneven road for my first run which resulted in a bit of a scare, a larger than expected amount of corrective steering and two ridiculously long snaking S’s of Michelin PSS smeared down the road! (Actually, the more I think about, the more I wonder if LC had actually engaged). My 2nd and 3rd runs at 3K gave a nice slip/grip balance. Either way, be on your A game if you fully deactivate DSC with all that torque! – An Incredible car! Not long left for you to wait now - Enjoy! Joe

Wow! Thanks for that, Joe (M4 JTD). If it's possible I'm even more excited after reading that!
It was the initial level of torque and the subsequent power through the rev range which got me addicted during my test drive, coupled with the precise steering and grip. Coming from a remapped 335d (352hp, 700Nm) most cars I've driven feel somewhat sluggish lower in the rev range. The F80 most certainly does not! One thing since the test I have read about is the running in period... Sadly the demonstrator I took out did not get any such cossetting from me. Although when mine arrives I think I'll probably adhere to the procedure. ...Just 38 more sleeps Tony |

Don't know if we have any roads wide enough to try out the launch control
The main road does cross the runway at the airport but they get very very upset if you turn off and use it as a drag strip, also aircraft tyre marks on the roof might be a problem though of course it probably wouldn't show on the carbon fibre. |

It will be well worth the wait. This car is a beast. After having an E46 M4 then a mapped 135i, I vowed never to go back to the M3 (M4) until they did a turbo. The car is always in the right gear and always fast and super responsive. I'm only at 400 miles so not really trashing it yet, but you can just tell that there is so much potential in this engine/car. I've got the car - now I'm frustrated I can't use the power, when I've run the car in I'll be frustrated until BurgerTuning release their JBM tune Mad. |

Thanks for that, Mad.
Great to hear you're enjoying it even prior to giving it the works. After driving a colleague's V8 M3 I can guess the run in period for that was way more tedious! I've thought the same about the engine after looking at the power and torque curves for the F80/82. Certainly potential for significant tickling. Guess that's the nature of turbo'd units. I keep checking SEDOX to see if they've produced anything yet. They did a great job on my 335d and I know they have good gains for the *35i too. Wholly unnecessary... But... Tony |

Finally!
A bit later than expected but I finally joined the club. Really impressed with the entire car. Cant wait to get the break in period out of the way! Also, YMB is a fantastic color.

That's a lovely looking machine, Hello World.
YMB is a cool colour. I'm on my phone at the moment, so can't see all the details. Is the orange reflector (repeater?) on the front bumper a US thing? |

Yes, mine is a US spec that I had delivered here in the UK. A few minor differences between the UK/Euro versions and the US. The ugly reflector being one of the most noticeable!

Hi ss134,
I had a S2 Exige S and a Mark 6 Golf GTI directly before the M4 - Prior to that an Elise followed by a NA Exige before the Supercharged one + an E90 330i Msport Touring before the Golf. Looking forward to returning to a two car strategy in the next 2-3 years by adding a Caterham 620R to the M4. I did initially toy with upgrading the Golf to a new Mark 7 R and the Exige S to a secondhand Caterham R500 simultaneously now instead of getting the M4, hence how pleased/relieved I am with the M4's performance and breadth of ability while I run it as my only car.

Build status 5055
My build went to 5055 yesterday.
Anyone got an idea when I can expect it to be at the dealer for pick up? Dealer had said 21st September before, but I am hoping things have come forward. |

I Went to see my dealer today and had an extended test drive in their M3. What a fantastic machine. I can't wait! They also had a SO M4 there which looked great, so I'm very happy with the colour choice.
Whilst I was there I got the print out of my car's status, which is at "5500 Assembly Complete" |

Thanks for your answer, Hello World. I didn't like to say it, but it does kind of spoil the look of the bumper. I'm assuming you'll be taking it across the pond at some point soon?

I nearly specced the grey leather myself. But ended up staying old school with mine. The test drive today let me play around with the settings, rather than the launch day balls-out experience. Just love the way it can be at up as Jekyll and Hyde. |
