Totally agree. I hate when people post results in the subject line. Nothing wrong with starting a thread, just don't spoil it for the rest of us!

I don t think all 8 DTM cars are the same. I find it strange Marco can win so easy an other BMW drivers who are World champions can do anything about it. Marco could have some better equipment then the order bmw factory drivers. Marco is a long time factory driver started at bmw at a very young age. BMW want to push Marco to the top and it s gets the stuff/engine which has just that little more.

The S65 most likely shares a lot with the P6XB40 series of engines however this M4 GTR's heart wasn't built at landstuhl like a bespoke engine it was built at Munich

At least no turbo lag

And no, your/our S65 is not in this DTM car.
DTM 'M4' has nothing to do with F82 M4, and has a totally different motor than the S65 that you reference.

It's just marketing.

So true!

It just "looks" a bit like a M4... The rest is almost as sophisticated as an F1 car...

It's largely a stock car series, all the M4's are technically the same and are factory supported so there shouldn't be an real differences. Notice mercedes had performance issues and they all finished pretty poorly regardless of driver.

If you have 8 engines on a test bench you always have one engine which gives just a few hp more. I think that engine was sitting in Marco s car.

The cars are identical but they are also adjustable, the key to winning in a series like this is not just being very quick but also being able to communicate to your team. Each car/driver will have its own engineers and pit crew and the car/driver/crew combo that is able to get the car set up perfectly for each track and for that driver's preferences is going to have a huge advantage. Off the top of my head I know that all of DTM cars use the same wings and Sachs dampers, but both of these have quite a range of adjustability. They also all use Eibach or H&R springs but I would imagine they have different spring rates available to choose from. It's easy to forget that racing is a team sport but sometimes you get that perfect combination of driver and engineers that is just unstoppable.

If you saw the Top Gear Ayrton Senna tribute, you'll remember David Coulthard talking about his time as a test driver. A big contributor to Senna's success was his commitment to take practice sessions more seriously than other drivers so him and his team could get the car dialed in perfectly which made it easier for him to drive the car during the race.

It has 8 cylinders. It relates more to the S65 than it does with the S55 :P

After next season the M4 DTM car will relate more to the N20. Since the series will be switching to 2.0L turbo-4 powerplants.

In reality they relate nothing to road going powerplants. Benz and Audi run 4.0L as well, what do they relate too?

Let's just agree it relates to BMW's presence. What else matters? Pride in the name.

The formula for DTM is 4.0 L V8 naturally aspirated … what else do you need to know?

Oh by the way, my E90 M3 has a 4.0 L V8 naturally aspirated engine … nuf said!

Hardly. Its quite a bit more to an engine design then the amount of cylinders and how they are aligned.

What else we need to know? That next year DTM is switching to turbo's, just as F1 has this year.
Oh, your car is still without turbo ? Your car must be an oldtimer.
