Need advice! Buying M4 - But its modded
Going to purchase an M4 here soon.
Found an interesting 2016 2200Mile M4 that is Black on Black, Comp package, Exec package as well as some aftermarket parts. KW3 Coilovers, camber plates and 10MM Spacers. I will never track the car, the price is around 66K. Do the coilovers serve any other purpose? Finding out if it can be put back to stock now. I found another M4 w/ comp package as well for 65K with no suspension mods but just wanted your thoughts! |

was the car tuned? If it were me, all other things being equal, I would NOT buy a car that was modded.

Is that really 2200 miles or 22,000 miles?
If it is only 2200 miles, curious that someone would buy an M4, put camber plates and coilovers on it within 2200 miles, and then sell it. What is the story behind why the owner is selling it? Maybe he got in over his head with a new car and $4,000+ worth of mods and couldn't afford it, but it's definitely curious. If the mileage is really 22,000 miles, then not so curious, but high mileage for a 2016. Many people who put coilovers on their car never track their car, they only do it for "stance". If you're not going to track the car, I would suggest that the mods are of no value to you. I would only consider it if you get all of the stock parts with the sale. Then you can have an independent return it to stock if you want, but it will run you around $500-$700 to have someone re-install the stock parts and you will need an alignment. You can always sell the aftermarket parts and possibly even make a profit. All things considered, if you really don't want the coilovers and camber plates and you don't want to go through the hassle of having the OEM parts re-installed, I'd move on and find another car.

Unless you WANT the mods just buy CPO or new. If you do buy it make sure you get stock parts as someone else suggested in case you want to sell or trade in the car yourself later.

Agreed. Don't mess with moded cars. More susceptible to headaches. Add the mods yourself.

That was my initial thoughts, only reason considering it was I do like the idea of a better stance, but not at the sacrifice of a worse ride quality than competition pack has. |

There are different levels of "modding", some of which, i would stay away from when buying used. I think in this situation, you have basically a brand new car with brand new HIGH QUALITY parts on the car. There is really no downside with this, especially if you are getting the stock components included when you buy it. Those coilovers retail at just under $3,000, and i would be willing to bet you could get at least $2,000 for them if you wanted to sell them used (just in case you didnt like them), pay someone $700-800 to install them and align it, and you are still up over $1000 in profit for doing nothing. Now if there was turbo upgrades, and tuning, or the parts were cheap, i would say stay away. In this case, you have nothing to lose. Buy that thing!

You are willing to mod a car and sell it to the next owner modded, but you refuse to buy a modded car?

Car looks great and the mods make completely sense even if you don't track the car, it's way better than the stock suspension crap...imo "strong buy"...

Well, given the addition of camber plates and coilovers, I think you can be reasonably sure this car wasn't just somebody's Sunday afternoon grocery getter. Somebody DROVE that car. It may only have 2,200 miles on it, but they *may* be 2,200 HARD miles.

Camber plates come with KW V3's, so that's probably not true.
