While I think this time is great for a GT car......it costs $100K more than a ZL1 and weighs 200 lbs less. I'm just not overly impressed.

The ZL1 is significantly slower on the Ring at 7:30ish. The ZL1 1LE is a beast and ran a 7:16, but has nothing less than a race car suspension with no rubber bushings that would be absolutely brutal on the street for daily driving. Lol, I believe it was Mototrend that says the 1LE ride "flat out sucks."

Do yourself a favor and visit YouTube and watch the Turbo S Exclusive being Built. You’ll no longer wonder why it cost $200k. Porsche is in just a different league. Different class...oh...and it’s engineered with an engine in the rear and still murders everything.

This is about where I would expect this car to be, perhaps a little slower than expected. Overall, not mind blowing compared to the current competition but still ridiculously fast. At these levels, every second becomes an exponential increase.

The point was the ZL1 !LE that runs a 7:16 has a race car suspension with no rubber bushings that basically cannot be driven on street. There are trade offs and the 991.2 turbo S runs the same time with a suspension that is very comfortable and compliant and easily usable as a daily driver.

I agree. Not mind blowing, but the fact it is not mind-blowing in and of itself speaks volumes about just how capable cars are today. Mind blowing how fast and how well street legal, daily driveable cars handle with fair amount of ease these days.

Agree, that’s what I was thinking as well. When you watch the vids of these times, they are downright scary in many sections. It’s incredble that more and more cars are approaching these levels.

Just for the sake of an apple to apple comparison, Sport Auto ran 7:17 with 991.2 turbo S while GM test driver on basically slicks ran 7:16 with zl1 le. If sport auto were to test zl1 le it may be a few seconds slower than 7:16. Nevertheless impressive time for zl1.

Jeez, it seemed like only yesterday when cars just started breaking the 8:00 barrier and most of them were pretty sketchy at the level of performance.

That said, I like the new Z06. Wouldn't buy one. The turbo is more a complete package to me and mine is our cabriolet. Fact is, the 991.2 has plenty of performance for me for the street. My purchase decisions are driven by factors other than just Ring times. It, however, is wild to see cars performing at these levels. |

Awesome time by the Turbo, since it's the "fast executive commuter" version, not the "track toy" version of the platform
I agree with rev, I would skimp on the lux and comfort and get the American sports car for cheaper but those buying a new turbo S as their commuter probably have a track star in the garage already anyway Last edited by mkoesel; 02-10-2018 at 12:07 PM.. Reason: Thread cleanup |

Also laguna seca laptimes betweeen 911 turbo S and z06 were similar in 1.33s range (same driver). I believe zl1 le was about 1s slower at laguna. On the street the turbo S is way faster in straight line than either GM vehicle unmodded. |

One other car I didn’t see mentioned here for comparison sake is the AMG GT, especially the GT-R. Price wise, it’s perhaps a good comparison to the Turbo and can also be driven quite comfortably. Just missing back seats but that wouldn’t mattter to me. If that’s too harsh, even the regular GTs are damn fast and look great imo.

Not bad considering it'll ventilate your rear while you are driving the ring. I've enjoyed mine so far, but it needs some more sound a bit more power. Exhaust soon.

Not the one in the video it won’t. It has carbon buckets and a harness.
