"Blasty" The M3 - My First Car
Hello, World:
This is the beginning of my 2015 BMW M3 online journal. This automobile and journal is dedicated to my newborn son Rhys who I hope to pass this car down to one day. This journal will document the car's experiences and journey through life. I hope you enjoy! ///THE CAR -2015 BMW M3 in Mineral Grey with 17 miles on the odometer. -This car was custom ordered to my specs in January 2015. ///WHY?!? Why in the world would I buy this thing? Well for starters, I've always been a car nut. I enjoy the design and engineering that goes into crafting a car, the skill required to drive quickly around a track and the joy, rush and freedom that a high powered great handling car can provide. But I've also lived in big cities (SF, NYC, CHI) and never really 'needed' a car, so I've had to bottle up my gear head tendencies for the sake of practicality. But vowed that when I bought a car, it'd be a car on my bucket list, be somewhat extreme and ridiculous, fit my needs for the moment and would age gracefully so that I could look cool driving it when I am old and gray and could pass down to my kids for them to enjoy. Also not that this is actually my first car! And you always remember your first, so she had to be special WILL BE FURTHER ADDING TO THIS LATER. HAVE TO CHANGE MY KIDS DIAPER. Congrats.
Like your way of thinking. Like most the M3/4 will just be another car they would call they owned and eventually part ways with it for the next best thing. But for you and me it will be a car we keep and some day pass down, and it will always be there and become a classic one day! |

///Log Update 4.12.15
Blasty the M3 and I are still getting to know each other. This is only the 3rd time I've taken her out (been busy with the baby) and I've got about 100 miles on her. ///Driver notes First new owner impressions, one word... Amazing. I was giving her a gentle but spirited drive with RPMs below 5k and speed below 85mph. But I've quickly realized that this car is fast, really fast. The torque is amazing and is always on tap. I now have to keep a close eye on the speedometer because 100mph comes up quickly. So cliche, but she also handles like she's on rails. But the ride is still comfortable for me and I drive in the city. I've also come to realize that I'll probably never get to take it to its full limits, even if on the track because I know I'm no F1 driver. Her potential greatly surpasses my skill level but I'm ok with that. I have a bunch of divers watches that can go into great sea depths and I can barely swim, lol. But I appreciate them none the less. ///Looks She is a looker for sure. An amazing design with a perfect balance of elegance, sportiness and aggression. And Mineral Grey, in my humble opinion, is one of the best colors for this car. It shows off the curves of the car really well and throws off a million shades of grey depending on the light. Unlike colors like white or orange with photos representing the color well, I feel MG looks so much better in real life than in photographs. When I ordered it, I was worried that the color was too subdued for such an awesome car but that's not the case. She gets attention, looks and compliments everywhere I go and that actually surprised me. ///End Overall I love her. No regrets so far if you're on the fence, don't be and buy one asap. |

Congrats, looks great, and congrats on the baby! We share the same views in terms of keeping car long, etc. I got 2 kids also, so the car is well suited for family duty, and solo hooligan duty.
Stay safe!

Congrats on your boy and his first car! Funny enough, I actually did the same thing. I traded in my E60 M5 for something more reliable and cool enough to pass down to my son when he's old enough (hopefully the car lasts that long). A couple weeks before he was born I bought the F80 so I could bring him home from the hospital in it

///Log Update 4.24.15
///Taking Blasty to the SPA (Detail and Opticoat) I've put a little over 200 miles on her, all cruising and having fun miles, lol. She been amazing and surpassed my expectations on what a practical sports car can be. This car can literally be your grocery getting in Efficient mode and your track beast highway rocket sled on Sport Plus. But since she's going to be a keeper, I knew it was time to add some exterior protection on her to keep her looking new. So today I took her out for a day at the spa at XTC Detail / Alex in Chicago for a detailing and opticoat. XTC / Alex has been highly recommended by others on the forum, so I figured I'd give him a shot. ///Impressions She looks great!!! I am really happy with the way she turned out. Any fine scratches were taken out with a light polish and the finish looks nice and wet, which is the look I love. He Opticoated the wheels too, which I think look better now. They looked a bit flat before but now have some pop to them. The car had a really nice coat of wax on it before the opticoat and he felt bad for having to strip it off, so he's also going to put on a quick coat of wax on top of the opticoat after it fully cures. Talk about customer service, lol. But over all I'm excited to see how she wears and if she can keep cleaner and be easier to wash per Opticoat's reputation. Overall, I'm pretty impressed so far. Here are a few before shots looking sad and dirty. Will post some more after shots tomorrow. ///Before ///After Last edited by marrk; 04-24-2015 at 12:51 AM.. |

///1,000 MILE UPDATE 6.1.15 - THIS CAR IN AN EXPERIENCE
Well, I finally hit 1,000 miles, woohoo! Besides the occasional spirited driving, I've pretty much babied this car so far. Haven't passed 5k RPM but the motor is still plenty fun. Driving this car for me is like therapy or like getting a good massage. Every drive I go on, I feel so much better afterward, lol. I've heard happiness gurus advise people to spend their money on experiences rather than expensive material items. For me, every time I get in the car it's a new experience. it's like a mini vacation away from work, everyday life and any troubles or stresses that I may have that day. But, Marrk, was it worth spending a small fortune on??? Sometimes I ask myself, should have I bought this car? Couldn't I have spent this money on something more practical? I can easily afford the car but sometimes I feel guilty for buying It. But them I get in the car, turn on the engine, listen to it purrr, the hit the gas, hear the motor roar, row through the gears and watch the world pass by in an awesome blur and I say to myself, 'fuck yes it was worth it!!!!'. |
