Plus, they didn't even bother to build a sedan for the current generation model - it's wagon only, and, predictably, not offered in the US. I do think Audi will offer us a sedan for the B9 model though. They'd be sort of crazy not to given that BMW has clearly committed to the segment (no way they kill the M3 brand any time soon) and obviously Mercedes remains so as well.

Thinking about the C63 507 edition... this wait for the F80 M3 is terrible.

Some technical details would for sure make the wait a lot easier. I guess we need to hang in there another couple of weeks. On the other hand the time from now until orders can be placed is a good time to evaluate the competition as discussed here.

If the F8X has some significant weakness wether it is the steering, interior, price or a general F-series isolation it's good to have a backup plan. I might choose something totally different as a Macan if it's good while waiting for a true competitor as the upcoming "Pajun". Anyone know if the Macan will be at Frankfurt?

Rumors are that the new A5 Body style will arrive in 2016 so new RS5 probably not before 2017

RS5, M4, Shelby, or trusted X5

The M4 for sure. Not really wanting an M3 but await the way it turns out.

Also thinking about a Porsche Cayman S and the new BMW X5 (V8 version) and the new Range Rover Sport. The latter is a completely new model and looks interesting.

Anyone else sort of thinking a bit outside the box the next go around?

Audi RS5 (still too pricey though)

535i or 550i

M4

Jaguar XF prices have shot up since the introduction of the XF. So, I think they are overpriced too, plus they are getting uglier, not sexier.

Blacked out Ford Mustang Shelby (but I'm so done with driving stick, getting older, just want to relax now). Plus, unless they have done something about the rapidly rising oil temperature and brakes ... that car isn't as safe as it should be.

Otherwise, I've no complaints about my X5. May get the new model V8.

Other than that, nothing else catches my eye.

I'm really liking the xLine version of the V8 X5. Looks great.

I'm up for a new car in a year. Things on my list, IF I choose to get a car in 2014:

1) BMW M4 - pending engine and performance specs
2) C63 AMG 507 - great except is the last hurrah right before the C-class is revamped, so will look dated. By the time I wait for the new C, will have enough to go up a class.
3) RS5 - has a V8, sounds sexy, styling is a little too lukewarm for me.
4) Porsche 911 Carrera - most expensive option here by about 10K.

Only option in 2014 at this point looks like a 911, but even then, I've never truly liked the Porsche aesthetic.

Most likely going to wait and save up a couple more bucks for a 2015/16 Audi R8 V8. I'm actually pretty happy the 2014/2015 choices aren't looking good.

I'm
Curious if u guys who list the gt3 as a possibility are using it as a 3rd car or have never driven one for an extended period of time. It's rough in so many ways and the clutch in traffic is almost unbearable after 5 minutes its so heavy! I have a c4s and an s2000. I will keep the s2000 until I die. I think it is one of the best cars under $100,000 ever made. every enthusist should have one. yes its slow but everything works so well. I love the new 991S but prices are INSANE! I expect a loaded m4 to be upper $70's and since I got the 911 thing out of my system I don't see any other great options in that price range. M4 for me!

This is why I'm looking at the M4 as my potential next car. The M3 has always been known as being versatile but still very capable. The M4 should be the same in that regard. Maybe not as capable as the GT3 but being motorcycle track day instructor I'll never feel the need to take the GT3 to the track anyway.

The other car is the current or next RS5. quattro is very useful in the pac nw. The current RS5 maybe less so as I want some torque. Having boost of some sort is a big plus as well.
I have a 997.2 RS. I'll tell you right now that the E92 M3 I had felt like a Cadillac compared to the 911. It's a sporty car. NOT a sports car. If you sell, and you feel the same way after the newness wears off which will eventually happen, you may regret selling the GT3 and may have a tough time finding another. Fair warning.

I have money down at my dealership for the M4. The only other car I would consider would be a 991 S, either RWD or AWD. It definitely costs more, but I did driver a 991S cabriolet and it was awesome. I would prefer a coupe though.

I hear what you're saying. However your ownership of the RS may have skewed your opinion a bit. The M3 is a sportscar. Your car is as close to a race car as you can get.

I've heard the current GT3 is very close in the suspension comfort component of NVH to the base 911. Of course this is just magazine reports.

Wow, it is nearly impossible to believe that these two cars coexist on someones list for their next two cars. So little in common.

Based solely on press reports, a Z51-equipped C7 Corvette. Can't wait to drive one.

Cayman S, next-gen Audi S5. Can't imagine owning the Corvette - way too flashy (I can imagine the comments from friends/family/colleagues...) 911S is too expensive, and considered ostentatious where I live. I'll probably go with the M4 when I replace my S5.

A better question might be why would one with the budget for a high end personal escort charging $1000 settle for a $2 back alley hooker...
