"In "Sport" and "Sport Plus" settings, the turbochargers are "pre-tensioned," which means that they keep spinning at a high rate of speed even after you have taken your foot off the throttle."

Any hint on how they do this?

No idea, but this is evidence that the s55 is more than just a boosted n55.

Regardless of actual performance, this car's 1M like torque curve is going to make the car feel a lot faster around town.

Hi Jason do you know if the carbon front lip on the concept car will be included on the production cars?

Most likely a performance part. Also the rear carbon diffuser and carbon exhaust tips.

The M3 and M4 are awesome, but I have already ordered a Corvette Stingray and am very excited! I am still keeping my e92 because the car is too awesome to let go; I've already developed a bond with it. At some point in the next several years, I will look into a used M4, but it will be an addition and not replacing anything

I too. 18 and 19 are the perfect two options.

And a big thanks to Jason and Jens - great reporting.

Now, what's the weight target of the M2?!
Agreed, a c.10% improvement over our E92s if weight is down to 3460 US curb (inc driver of course)

People, stop swooning over the 3300 lbs claim. Nothing is said on the options to achieve that weight. The most telling fact in the article is that it's around 80 kg lighter than the equivalently equipped E9x M3. That means only 80 kg savings! I had expected more. Maybe specifying the carbon ceramics would save some more.

Wow, 3300 lbs is Corvette territory. Given their performance numbers and similar weight, I'll be very curious to see how these compare, especially now that the Vette has a very respectable exterior and interior. But why does the article say that's 175 lbs lighter than its predecessor? 3700 down to 3300 is a 400 lb reduction. Is that a typo or am I missing something?

Glad to see they've finally ditched single-piston sliding calipers too!

I do wish the option to keep the turbos on the boil could be toggled separately from the throttle map. On the track where I'd want that feature, in the E92 I use the Normal map since it's the most progressive and linear, whereas I use Sport on the road for casual driving where I wouldn't necessarily care about keeping the turbos charged. Unless they've changed how the throttle maps feel this will be a choice between a twitcher throttle and turbo lag on track.

I also hope the auto-blip on 6MT is defeatable and not only turned off in Sport Plus like the M5.

Yes, I hope you can turn off that auto-rev matching feature. Totally unnecessary for the true enthusiast!

And what's up with cylinder deactivation to slow the revs?

I really have no doubt that the weight savings quoted include ceramic brakes.

You have read through the marketing to get the real numbers.

Pull from other post, thanks to Swamp.

The apples to oranges BS with the weight obviously continues and thanks for all of the non-sheeple who were very quick to point of the BS marketing of car weight without driver. It's great that Jason clarified 3300 without driver with 90% fuel. That means apples to apples is:

3305 lb (i.e. less than 3306 lb) + 68 kg (driver) + 7 kg (cargo) = 3470 lb

Now the CSiC brakes are almost for sure included here despite being an option because that is just how BMW marketing rolls. No CSiC brakes should add about 20 kg. Thus

E92 M3 = 3704 lb (US curb weight with driver, gas, cargo)
F82 M4 = 3514 lb (US curb weight with driver, gas, cargo)

To ease all the info for weight weenies: approximately 3,500lbs with driver, cargo and liquids, which is 80kg less than the e9x M3.

And yeah, that figure is probably without nav, with carbon brakes, no sunroof, manual trans, etc. but what justice would they do themselves if they didn't advertise the lowest weight possible in OEM configuration?

It's a literal translation from the German original article. In German the people who do not park their car in a garage (because they don't have one or because there's not sufficient ******* are called "lantern parkers" as they park their car in the street, under the streetlights (in English you wouldn't use the word "lantern" but that's probably what Google translate told them to use).
