It is a fact for instance that the SportAuto numbers for the E92 M3 on the Nurburgring were achieved using Cup tires.

We still don't know if the speed limiter of 155mph was used on the F10 M5 for the Nurburgring test.

Also, SportAuto says that they used Carbon Brakes for their tests with the M4.

Let's get SportAuto to test the F10 M5 with the Competition Package and Carbon Brakes on both tracks then. I'm not saying the F10 M5 will be fast than the M4, because it's still 900lbs heavier, but let's at least get a test where the M5 has all available factory options on it to let it achieve what it really can do. The Unsprung Weight advantage of Carbon Brakes alone will make a big difference.

One more thing. Let's get a SportAuto test on the new Alpha Romeo 4C on both of these tracks too and compare them to the M4. The new 4C comes in at a featherweight ~2,400lbs and 240hp and 250tq. An all Carbon Fiber chassis that weighs 1,000lbs less than an M4 and will be $10,000 cheaper. Would be interesting to see the results.

Also a test of the new Cayman GTS would be nice too. .
I don't think the CCB make a difference in lap times for the M4.

They might on the M5 due to its greater weight. CCB would improve fade resistance.
Yes, see my post above where they mention fading as a big issue on the M5 (as well as cooking it's tires).

Impressive numbers and makes it so much harder to grab a used E90 M3 (which was my original plan) especially given the fact the E90 M3 has crappy low end torque and consumes more gas for daily driving.

Quit making excuses! Just grab the e90 and keep it in its sweet rpm range. If you look at those times then figure in the torque # differences you can tell the e90 is no slouch.

So just an observation, but few post in this thread M5 is listed as 8.05 when I thought it was 7.55? But while I was looking the E60 is now listed as 7.52??? It use to be 8.14 or something like that. When and how?

I ammore surprised the gets wasn't better at around 740 or 745.

Is anyone else a bit disapoontex.the e92 beat e46 by17s and it was an "equal" comparison with both being 6 speeds and both having regular brakes.
.
The f80 needed carbon brakes and less weight that it offers, dct and super sports and delimited.
Carbon brakes-1.5s
Dct.-3s
Delimited. 1-2s
Super sports-2s

Total 8.5s. Which would put the next massive torque monster only4-5 better than equally equipped e92.

Its not nearly as impressive as the jump from e90 to e46

Whatever, it's 13 seconds faster than the E92 M3, which was already a pretty fast car. As it's literally putting up supercar-like lap times on the Ring, it's no longer possible to make it 17 seconds faster each generation and keep the car the same price.

And here's me pulling numbers out of my ass

The excuse matrix for why the E92 was slower around the Ring is staggering.

Agreed but not surprising. Gts was 7:48 which had worse weight to power, far less torque, but better suspension and tires. Alot of ppl incl myself predicted low-mid 7:50s which is exactly where it should be and is

A TT I6 is a truck motor now? This is a new and exciting development. Please continue with your insightful and worthwhile commentary.

Think those are quite reasonable estimates actually.

There's nearly a 100 HP difference between an E46 ///M3 and an E9X M3, among other things. There has been plenty of discussion as to why the delta isn't as large between an E9X and an F8X (..but it's still damn significant for a car with not much more power). Why must we rehash this......again?
