M3 looks too quick, draws attention from cops
Got lectured by cop after accelerating in Sport+ mode to make light - turning left into a 3 lane westbound street. Was going 45mph into turn. I think cop saw me from opposite direction. He just rolled up next to me at the light told me to roll down window and loudly lectured me to slow down and don't run red light or I get ticket. I ran light at yellow and was at 45mph turning into a 50 mph street with no crosswalks so I don't think I broke any laws. I just said thank you and he left. I think I will downgrade to Prius. M too much power for Cops to understand.

If cop wanted to really give you a bad day they would have hit you with an "exhibition of speed" ticket or something like that.
Going 45 through a left turn with lots of throttle and exhaust in "loud" mode will attract some attention. The only other things you could do to attract more would be to use launch control first and then drift through the intersection |

I’ve been commuting in my M3 for 3 years now in northern NJ. I See at least 6 cops every morning and every night during my 30 mile commute. Lowered, carbon front lip, spoiler, diffuser, etc. never been pulled over. Want my opinion? Stop driving like a douche. I’m a cop, and I would also pull you over. Yellow(amber) doesn’t mean go 45mph while making a left turn through the intersection. It means slow down and use caution.

Guys don’t get it. It’s rarely about the type of car, obviously if you’re rocking a straight piped Honda/Evo/etc, you’re begging to get pulled over regardless of your driving style. However, in a 80K german sports car, it’s pretty simple. Don’t drive like a dick, don’t open your muffler flaps and rev the motor while passing a cop. In stock form, these cars do not attract any attention at all, unless you’re in one of those crazy colors.. |

I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten the talking-to ("I saw what you did and I don't like it, so knock it off or next time I'm ticketing you") and every single time I deserved it. The goal of cops is to keep the peace, not be ticket robots, so if they think you're doing something that might disrupt the public Chi, let them do their job and say thank you. Being indecisive at Starbucks isn't illegal, but it's fucking annoying, so if cops are willing to take that on too, I'm all for it. Their job is to ensure you're not being a dick, and so is yours, so work with them, huh? |

(2.) Lots of people are dickheads, apparently including "medicine" workers (whatever the fuck that means) (3.) America is litigious because we culturally don't seem to get that not everything has to be a fucking law and black/white Further, unfortunately I involuntarily meet a lot of traffic cops: * ~5% are genuinely power-crazed dicks * ~95% are just tired of entitled douchebags thinking if they didn't technically break the law it's all cool |

^When's the last time Doctors had the reputation of being dickheads? Reputations and stereotypes are rooted in reality.
5/95 ratio is BS. I've dealt with a couple fair traffic officers but the majority have just been bullies with a badge. You must kiss their a$$ otherwise you get screwed. It's all about collecting funds for the city and upholding their tough boy ego. |
