Trade ‘18 M3 ZCP for ‘16 M4 GTS?
So I bought a fully loaded 2018 competition M3 last September, has around 4K miles now. Dropped about $20k worth of mods including 3/4 clearbra, ceramic coat, Carbon lip, sides, rear diffuser, exhaust, midpipe, tint, wheels and more. I like the convenience of having 4 doors, but don’t have kids so it isn’t a requirement. I love the car, but sometimes I do wish I had gotten something a bit more obnoxious. So funny how things fall in your lap, because a friend who owns a dealership has a 2016 GTS with 4K miles for sale for $85k who has offered a straight trade. I’m torn and looking for any advise from the community. Attached are pics of mine and the GTS

If he has offered a straight trade, I'd do it. Your car is worth no where near 85k. Trade in is probably closer to high 50's

One of my local dealers still has a GTS that's been in the showroom for over a year. |

Keep your current car, shes a beaut. Are those ZCP 359 wheels? What front lip is that?
GTS will probably depreciate less though if that matters to you Side note Tommy L Garage I enjoyed quite a few of your DIY vids on Youtube. Inspired me to get my hands dirty (although I have an E90 not an F80 currently). I'm at the 2 day BMW CCA HPDE at NJMP this weekend so will have to watch your track vid! |

Your car is beautiful. I think if you had a GTS hood you wouldn't even be looking at it.
Your car is tastefully done, looks clean. That GTS is not easy on the eyes between that wing, that lip, and the wheels.

The GTS will be a classic. I would personally trade. But what’s the catch? The GTS is selling for close to $200,000 in Europe. Is something wrong with the GTS?

I'd do. While that car didn't especially sell well because of the price, it's still the most hardcore F8X you are going to find. I also prefer the white over the frozen dark grey. Part you car out and get some of your money back of course!

A straight trade? Grab it and run and no takebacksies.
It's actually kind of fishy because dealers aren't in the habit of losing money, not even to their friends. GTS values have taken a hit, sure, but your car has depreciated as well. And while it's not priced like a classic right now, it at least has a chance to be so, while a normal M3 has no chance. Have you driven the GTS? I don't know if any F8x can be a truly special ride, but the GTS is as good as it gets for the platform. It's certainly outrageous and immensely capable. The only cons I can give you are that they're almost out of warranty, and definitely drive it (with your spouse/SO if you have one) to see if the ride on the highway works - it isn't for everyone. |

The GTS cars are nearly sale proof for that kind of coin. The market is very thin for those cars to begin with and When you have one priced at $85k, you’re bound to own it for the long haul.
He probably bought it wholesale for close to what your car is worth wholesale and figures he may break even on the deal while getting rid of the GTS. |

DO IT NOW BEFORE YOUR FRIEND COMES TO HIS SENSES! Your F80 is not worth anywhere close to that as mentioned above.

The dealer is asking 70k but does it make the car sold? The dealer can also put it up for sale for 100k if they want. Imho this is a no brainer, I would trade my F82 for the GTS without blinking.

Your F80 is worth nowhere near the GTS evenup... mods or not. Im actually surprised someone would offer to do that. I'd take it.
Even with the hard to sell GTS the wholesale values are still floating in the low 70's, and the F80's are low 60's. |
