if dealer you spoke with is giving you allocation for ED MSRP, take it.
Call big dealers in neighboring states

In my research, BMW of Alexandria said they had an allocation they were willing to let go off @ MSRP. Contact is Natalie Lucas. Not sure whether it is still available. I declined.

US MSRP (bad deal)
or
ED MSRP (not bad at all, especially as allocation dwindling down)

100 allocations in the whole US, means 1 for every 4 dealers; yup things getting tight fast here.

But doesn't that mean next month, more allocations will be given out? Since the M3 has not ended production yet?
My dealer has given me a great offer and a good offer on my trade in but ended up finding out that they actually didnt have any allocations left. So was hoping in May they might get some? Not sure how it works.

Interesting. What do typical allocation numbers look like across the US?

sorry everyone I am not going to get into any talks on allocations(too many variables etc.. just make things more confusing), I was hesitant and prob should have not posted that info up but wanted to let you know there are allocations out there you just have to keep searching.

In closing like we always say, no production number, no allocation. If you can't lock one in this late in the game with your dealer, its best to keep moving till you do. its crunch time good luck and happy hunting

my super-wild guess, usually about 2x or 3x than now.

I've been curious if allocations are really dwindling down so I've been monitoring, how many M3 dealers in my region has on the their web-sites. Interpolate the numbers to what I could remember when I was looking to buy back in Nov and Dec, the numbers of M3 listed on dealer's website shrinks down to 1/3 than what it did.

Yes allocation for M car is complex math, my CA says it depends on how many regular 3-series they can move, survey score, region, average how long cars sitting on the lot etc. He may BS me but that seems to make sense.
It's not plain number of M3 they can sell last month.
Dealer can trade allocations but that means giving up another M-car allocation like M2 or M5, not a good chance since those two pretty hot right now as well.

So like GOLFR says, if dealer has no allocation move to the next.

Great info. So do you ask for a production number up front? I have had dealers say they have an allocation when they don’t. What would be my first step in determining who is real and who is not?
Thanks!

I am not sure if ED is different than normal. But my method was to exchange immediately a deposit and completed credit app (on the spot, even if by phone and e-mail) as soon as they sent me paperwork with my name and the production number on it.

This caused dealers without an allocation to give me the song and dance - well, give me the deposit first, my sales manager said thats the only way, we have sister dealerships we'll trade with, i promise i can get one, need deposit and credit app first, trust me, blahhh blahhh blahh, and lots of variations of the same thing lol.

then the one dealer that actually DID have an allocation said NO PROBLEM! e-mailed me the production number with my name on it while i was on the phone with him, and i immediately sent him back a deposit and completed credit app. the rest is history.
