BMW Parking Stereotypes

You hear the ole typical stereotypes of BMW fans not parking very well. I think it's all a load of you know what. Prime example I found today is with the attached picture showing a 911 next to my M3. I had the most awesome time commenting to this individual and his mad parking skillz. His reaction was priceless if not course.

Surely there are more Bimmerpost members out there with similar stories.

I always try to park on a corner spot away from where the majority of cars are parked. I dont mind the extra walk and I park close to the curb to allow for maximum distance in the event someone wants to be funny and park right next to me like this individual did. And the lot was nearly empty.

Parking really should not be about how close you get to the door where ya going. The only thing that bothers me are the perfectly agile people that think its cool they figured out a way to get a handicapped placard.

Always wanted to ask them "what's your handicap" then if they appeared offended say you thought you saw them at the golf course and you were talking about golf handicap.

Frankly, I have no problem with the way the cars are parked in the above 2 photos. Sometimes you don't necessarily gage exactly where the lines are but rather how other cars are parked on both sides of the free space.

For example, in the Porsche photo above, you don't see how much space is on the other side of the Porsche at the time the Porsche was parking. It's possible that the car on the other side was parked on the line (or intruding) and so the Porsche driver chose to park in the middle of your car and that other car which puts his passenger-side wheel on the line on your side like the photo shows. It's somewhat tight but still reasonable. I've seen tighter spaces on some shopping mall lots.

It's not like someone parks his car right in the middle of 2 spaces hogging both spaces, like this one:

This would be bad because that car is hogging 2 spaces.

Tacoma, you might make a fine lawyer as the evidence did not present the expanse of room provided by the car on the other side of the Porche. There was no shooting to the middle of available space just poor control or penchant to open wide the driver's door. I would say your presentation of an Audi parking poorly, does lend credence to my case that other brand owners park poorly more often than BMW fans.

I had situations where I parked almost halfway into another space because every other car in the row did the same. It sucks because of you are the last to leave then you look like the douche.

I went to Costco and parked in the farthest parking away from the entrance possible. I come back out to my car and this guy parks right next to me. There were at least 9 open spots to the left and he parks right next to me WTF!

He's protecting his right side just like you are. He knows that you will not ding his car.

I would do the same thing in a busier lot; find the nicer car where one would hope the owner cares about his/her own car and the one next to them.

Costco scares the Fawk out of me with all those carts rolling around- definitely park up hill!!!

One of my fave commercials LOL

I always park far away as well, and as posted in this thread, there is always somebody who parks next to me regardless of how far away I park.

For me it's a running joke that no matter where I park, I will always come out to a giant SUV on either side of me - even in the very back of an empty lot. Often times that's exactly what happens. At least with the M3 I have the side cameras so I can see a little when pulling out. When I was in my S2000 I just had to pray nobody was coming.

I once watched an older guy pull forward into my front end from a nose to nose spot because the two cars next to him had parked in front of the line and he wasn't paying attention to where the lines actually were or how close he was to my car. When I came out the license plates were actually touching. IMO people should pay attention to the lines regardless of how people next to them are parked, and if they can't fit because of it go find another spot. Grinds my gears when I leave a ton of space in a corner spot and someone parks over the line next to me because they're judging the gap instead.

^ This.

I think they are looking for a reference point, i.e. instead of using the lines to park, they pick a car and park two feet away from it. Another indication is that I can be super close to a curb on one side, they'll park the same distance for me on the other side.

I'd like to think that as well. And the Merc owner did park within the lines so that's good.

But for some reason, people who park with their wheel turned full lock gives me the feeling that they just don't give a damn. It's like the picked the first spot they saw and wasted no time parking; can't waste time thinking the adjacent car is precious let alone straightening the wheel.

More than once, I've also seen those same people reverse out thinking their wheel is straight but forgetting it's at full lock. Unfortunately those are the folks that tend to blast the accelerator while reversing out as well.

Can you tell I over think this? I also park in the corner spot.

I don't believe you. I think the CRX was there first, and you parked next to him/her. The CRX is a classic; the M4's got NOTHING on that Honda.

No no no, the Merc curbed his wheels, cuz, you know, there are so many hills in Vegas. That way, if his tranny gives, he'll roll into the M4 to minimize the damage. His only flaw was he curbed the wheels the wrong way. Sheesh, don't you people know anything?

But on a very serious note, I always try to park in the farthest spot next to the curb as well. The frustrating thing is that all those spots are usually taken by M3's or M4's

Hahaha! I guess that Merc driver is visiting from SF then. Curbing habits die hard even in Las Vegas... the flattest land in the west.

My friend tells me time to time if I make misjudgment, I'll be paying more than just fixing door dings... But oh well lol
