Don't confuse things. LED don't need to be dot matrix. LED can also light bar strips just as they do on the current M4 (pre-LCI) tail lights. The advantage of LED is that they consume less electricity, are more uniform in terms of lightning and are "instant" on/off for a sharper transition.

I replaced the halogen turn signals on my M4 for LED bulbs. I disliked how the halogen mismatched the front and mirror turn signal when blinking.

Which turn signal bulbs did you purchase? Did your car throw any codes? Lastly, does the company you purchased from have them in amber?

Jason,

Can you add the U.S. pre-LCI M4 tail lights too? The M4 tail lights that you posted are the Euro tail lights with the amber corners.

If they offer OLED they will want to charge, as always!
I mean....I'm not saying I wouldn't pay extra for the OLEDs. I'm sure they cost more to manufacture than the standard rear lights anyway

Plus, on a more subjective, visual note, the OLEDs looks sexy, and if you want sexy, you typically have to pay up a bit more

$600 is what I paid to update my 15. I think that was cheaper than the uptick on price from a 16

Its hard to say the LCI tails actually look better. I like the design of the non-LCI ones more I just wish they were full LED..

Honestly - I'm getting tired of the this M LED LCI BS that BMW has been doing for years now. Just put them on at the beginning and stop this marketing nonsense.

Example
e9x M3 No Led tails at launch.
e9x M3 LCI Led tails.

F8x M3/M3 No Led tails at launch.
F8x M3/M3 LCI Led tails at launch.

So did BMW lose the LED tech drawings between models?

I just hope the non-US version has no longer the 90s looking amber part, depending on price and easiness of retrofitting I might consider those

I prefer the originals. Let's hope some or all 4 models get LED headlights as standard or for at least a much lower price.

Well, this was a disappointment. I was considering delaying an order if the OLED taillights were available on the LCI.

Oh well. I can't say I'm surprised. This is the same company putting incandescent bulbs in $60k+ cars.

All M cars should have LED rears as standard from the off, no question. Incandescents, in my opinion, degrade an otherwise great looking car.
Even some ordinary cars run around with LEDs
Every BMW tbh, I mean come on it's almost 2017... Bloody Kia has it...

The brake and tail lights are LED but the reverse aren't. That's what floors me.

Non-LCI tails fit well with the body style of the M4, but the new LCI tails coming out look great. For me, as long as the bottom bar remains horizontal, I'm happy.
