RE-11 and RE-71R

I was doing the same with should I get Re71's for my track setup. I have been running AD08's. After tons of research, I am sticking with AD08's because I looked at tread width based on rim width and the AD08's won out on all aspects. I would give it a thought.

I just ordered the Advan Neova AD08r's yesterday.

I ended up going with stock sizes though , as I have Ohlin R/T coilovers and the spring is VERY close to the tire, so I can't go 265 or 275 in the front.

I'm looking forward to the stiffer sidewalls of the Advan's

I need tires, I want to go with 265 front and 285 rears. I do 2-3 track sessions a year my car is not a DD. I'm leaning towards the RE71's. Should I just do RE11 because I don't track much? Any advantage of RE11 over MPSS?

I went with 265/285 RE-11's because I'm new to track driving and wanted to maintain the best quality DD tire possible. The PSS is a great tire but not for dry track days. I gave up just a tiny bit of comfort with the RE-11's but can enjoy the car for a few track days a year without limping home with burned off shoulders. I'd recommend at least the Re-11's.

Never go PSSs if you're even thinking of tracking .....

I love my RE71Rs. So much so I lost a rear set in less than 4,000 miles

Price point, at least in Canada, the RE71Rs are unbeatable.

Are you running the 265/285 setup? Or did you squeeze the 305's on?

I just switched over to the Advan Neova 08r's from the RE-71.

I like them much better. They are quieter than the RE-71 and have a sharper turn-in with stiffer sidewalls.

Some say they ride harsher because of the stiffer sidewalls, but I don't see it. Feels about the same to me.

Grip levels it's hard to tell because new tires will always grip better than old ones, but to me, they feel about the same when New at least on the street with on/off ramps.

The AD08 also have a wider treadwidth than RE71, size for size. I would've gone w/ AD08 since i love that square look but with the offset I'm running, I went re71r to play it safe.. maybe next time

I stayed stock.

I wanted to try 275/30 and 295/30, but I have the Ohlin R/T coilovers and the spring in the front is very close so didn't want to chance it.

I was on the cords on the RE-71, so I didn't have the luxury of swapping them if the up sizes didn't work out.

Why is PSS not recommended for tracking? I know they are not dedicated track tires such as cup 2s or any other r compound but what is their main disadvantage? I'm fairly new to tracking my car but would like to make my future tire purchases accordingly. Is it because they don't provide good grip or don't last long enough?

The PS4S is supposed to do a lot better with wear on the track from what I read.

They don't last long, the shoulders start chunking and breaking off with heat. I guess with mild autocross you won't see that but any hard driving on a track will rip the PSS to shreds.

Ok, this is inline with my experience. I thought people didn't like the grip PSS provides but I think the grip is not bad at all. However, the shoulders are a different story. After one track day (in fact half a day), I could easily see the shoulders of my front tires were worn out quite noticeably.

I only have one track day on my re71's in the sizes mentioned but a great tire with amazing grip. Definitely an improvement.

Hi all with the added weight of the RE11 or even RE71R , did anyone experience any performance loss in terms of over all acceleration values? The weight difference for the rears is substantially higher at at least 4-5lbs more per tire compared to PSS. Thx

For the guys running either the RE71R or AD08's in 265/285 or 265/305, is anyone lowered on coilovers or springs?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a set. I'd love to squeeze the 305 in the back on, but am worried that I'd be rubbing on Swift springs. OEM 19s by the way.

I'm running 265/305 re71 but not on OEM wheels. With OEM wheels I'd probably run a 265/35/19 285/35/19.. the 305 on a 10inch is not ideal. But to answer your specific question, the 305 wouldn't rub if you mounted them.

Thanks for the feedback. A set of SV101 or 104's is on the horizon for me, so I think I'll run the 305s in anticipation of that.

If you want to run 305 for certain, I'd go +40 offset to run all the available 305. While re71r is one of the most grippiest tires you can buy today, they also run a little thin. I'm on 34 offset right now in the rear with 11'', -2.2 camber, and I have an envelope fitment under compression. If I chose a 305 AD08, or a 305 MPSS that has the sidewall protection, I'm most certain I'd rub. I dont feel / hear rub, but I wouldn't be surprised if I see some minor fender well plastic rubbed.

I had the same question before I installed the RE-11's and now that I've got 1,500 miles or so on them, I'm not sure I can definitively say. If the additional weight has had a negative impact on acceleration or cornering, it has been offset by gains in traction. The net result seems to be a better track experience and maybe just a bit less "playfulness" on the street. I didn't really see another option.
