Trade in my Porsche 991.2 C2S for a F80 M3 ZCP?

Currently facing a difficult decision, looking for some insight from M3/M4 owners.

I have a 2016 Porsche 991.2 Carrera S which i enjoy to drive ... but i don't drive it as much because i can't go to work with that car and i almost always take my X3 when i'm going away with luggage.

Ever since the E46 M3 i've been in love with the M3 cars. It's practical, fun to drive, and it's a lower profile car than a 911 so i could drive to work and have more use of it.

Ideally i get rid of my X3, keep the Porsche and get an M3 but financially it would be a lot more to lay down and in winter i'm glad with the X3 as a daily and the xdrive.

I'm really torn to let go of my 911 and get an M3 which i could use more and even daily, but a 911 is a different league.

Are there people who have made the switch or have testdriven a 991.2 and were happy to get back in their M3?

Thanks for your opinions ?

Doesnt sound like you have driven the F8x?

You stated that you need a lower profile/fun car and also like to keep xdrive...then you r thinking about F8x car which is a RWD?

I have not driven F80. I owned a F82 for 2 years then sold it and got 991.2 base. Like you stated it is a different car and the handling/the way it takes corner at fast speed put smiles on my face everytime.

Go test drive the Fx first. Personally I think you have a perfect setup right now. But if you insist on M car, I would go back to e46 or e90.

The M3 will be practical enough that a X3 will be largely redundant. The one exception to this would be if you live in a heavily snowy area and need AWD from time to time. That said, the M3 with dedicated winters and a few sandbags in the trunk can handle that also.

You can probably see where I'm going here. I think you will be happier keeping the 911 and getting rid of the X3.

The M3 is awesome but it won't match the "tossable" nature of a 911. A 911 is the quintessential German sports car. An M is the quintessential German muscle car. Not the same thing.

If you can't afford to do that - honestly I'd get rid of both the X3 and the 911. I can't imagine you will want to drive the X3 with an M3 in the driveway.

As always, your mileage may vary.

Just keep your 991 on a battery tender and keep things as is.

Or sell the x3 and upgrade to a crazy fast SUV like glc63s to use as daily if you want a more interesting drive to work

Thanks, i know the X3 will get reduced driving time, but that's also the idea (i've driven 3/4 of my allowed miles in almost 2 years so i have 2,5 years to go and about 15.000km left of what i can drive without a penalty)

So the X3 would go as well in the very near future.

Or a new M5 and both cars (911 and X3) out

Before you get a high performance suv, realize that you just don’t get the best of both worlds. You get a compromise vehicle, no full utility and not a sports car.

I would not consider a glc63s or anything like it as the taxes are way too high where i live so no option at all.

Glc63s does sound good tho!

Keep your 911. Once you let your Porsche go, you will regret so much.

Two completely different cars. Pro's and cons for both. But FYI, I came from a 997 911. I wanted something more practical but still fun. F80 definitely fulfilled that, but overall, i miss my 911, and i'm going back to a Porsche when i sell.

I had an E92 for 5 years then F80 for three which I didn't enjoy because of turbo. I sold it and just got a 2015 Porsche 911s with the NA 3.8 engine and couldn't be happier. I do have 2 kids and one of them sits in back seat, so even the practicality of the M3 isn't affecting me much. I'll only go back to M3 if they make a V8 NA again.

+1. SUV's should be large, heavy, well optioned, slow and luxurious. In other words, everything a sports car shouldn't.

I have been contemplating selling my f80 for a 911. No knock on the F80 as I have enjoyed it for normal driving and performance at the track.

Like you said, there will be significant overlap between the M3 and the X3 (in terms of which of your needs the cars fulfill), so I don't think it makes sense to sell the 911 and have an M3 and X3. And I agree with some others here that you'll miss the 911 down the road if you sell it now. Have you considered an F90 M5 to replace your X3?

You live in Germany? Then forget about those gas guzzling suv behemoths and get an XDrive estate/touring 3 or 5 series. Much better drive than the X3 and still has all the practicality.
Anyone know if the new M5 will come in an estate/touring model? That would be perfect! Too bad we'll never see one in the US.
Oh yeah, don't sell the Porsche!!!

I have/am considering the F90 M5, but taxes in Belgium will be substantial as it's a 4.4 V8.

The 991.2 is perfect in taxes since it moved from 3.8 to 3.0 biturbo. Sound from the turbo engine is not great either and the spooling of the turbo's gets annoying as well even with PSE.

No doubt that the 911 is the better sportscar, and i'll probably regret selling the Porsche if i do but in the end i want to go to a one car garage. M3 would be alongside the X3 till the end of lease of the X3 and then the M3 will be the only car remaining.

Or i'll wait till end of my lease of the X3, keep the 911 a while longer and maybe change to G80 M3 in a couple of years as a single car.

I think your current setup is solid.

If I were to make a move, it would be to swap the X3 for something bigger and more plush.

I traded-in my 2012 Turbo S on an M4. No real regrets save the acceleration; yet, the pull of the M4 and a couple upgrades below make the M4 more interesting to drive.

If you want somewhat similar handling as the Porsche; I think you'll need the MP HAS Spring kit, plus, I like the sound of the MP exhaust over the OEM. I added both to my M4.

Keep the 991.2 and add an X5M. If you have a Porsche sitting in the garage undriven, chances are finances is the least of your worries.

You aren't the first guy to sell his Porsche and go F80/82. But most people are going the other way. I have an 18 M4, a 2017 718 an X4M40 and an X1 in my garage in Texas. My next car will be M4 > 911.

If I were you I'd buy the new X3. In regards the 911, you did right by buying the last car first. Anything other than a 911 and you will be disappointed. The F80/82 will bore you. Big mistake. YMMV

Taxes on an X5M are crazy here, so not an option.

An M3 30 years edition brand new is an option if i were to swap my 991.2.

You need to get out to drive the F80 M3. Its not the same car as the E46 - its bigger and not connected, no NA motor but a turbo. I had mine for 5 months and dumped it, its just not fun in the twisties like the previous M cars. Make sure to drive the Comp Pack, the base was the worse M car I've ever owned.

Went to a 991.1 GTS and couldnt be happier. I would try to keep the 991. The 991.2 is not very good in the sound department like the F80, but makes up with the refinement updates.

If you do end up with the M3 then it could serve as your single vehicle, just put a set of snows on for winter.
