Ordering Another M4!

I decided to order my second M4. I ordered my first one back in 2015. It was a 2016 model car and I tracked it all the way to getting it at the dealer. This site has been very educational and helped me to be able to track the car and have more details about it, than my dealer had. It was a very exciting time and I enjoyed the experience, a lot...so much, that I decided to do it all again! Hopefully some of the same people are still on here, that were ordering the cars with me back in 2015. Would be cool to find out if some of the same people have ordered another M4 afterwards.

The 2016 M4, I traded in about 10 months ago, for a 2014 M5. Love the M5 and wont get rid of it for a while (until the f90 comp lci comes out). Right after getting the M5, one thing I started to instantly miss, was the manual transmission. I decided to get something that wasn't a BMW. I bought a 2017 Shelby GT350. Unfortunately, I am not really impressed with the car (the build quality and other things), (I am one of the few people, I know), so now going back to an M4.

I placed the order on January 8th. Today (January 18th), I received my production number. I am going to keep track of production timeline, as it comes. This way other people can use it as reference. I am going to make a video as well, but will release it when the car actually arrives, so I can edit the video down from order to the day the car arrives.

01/08/2018 - Order Placed
01/18/2018 - Production Number Received (Scheduled for week 8)
02/05/2018 - Production Started
02/19/2018 - Found out that another car was being built on my original production number. Not sure how that happened.
03/05/2018 - New Production number received (Scheduled for week 14)
03/09/2018 - Production got pushed back to week 18
04/20/2018 - Production started (Expected to be done on May 2nd)
05/02/2018 - Production is over - Status 155
05/03/2018 - Car on the way to the port - Status 190
05/11/2018 - Car has been assigned to a vessel (Elektra) - scheduled to leave port on 05/14/2018
05/14/2018 - Car is on the Vessel - ETA 05/24/2018
05/26/2018 - Car arrived at port
05/30/2018 - Car is at dealer! Only took 6 months.
05/31/2018 - Took Delivery!

Production started on Monday. BMW website still doesn't give me any tracking information, but I called Genius and they said the car entered production. Hopefully BMW websites updates soon, so I can just track it through the website.

Damn, just got word, the build got pushed back to week 18. This wait is a killer. 2016 M4 I got in about 3 months after order. This car is starting to look more like a 6 month wait time.

Thanks for the timeline! I ordered one a week ago, and im pissed off I didn’t get a production number yet. Seeing yours took more than a week is ok lol

Yea, it technically took 2 months to get my accurate production number. That usually never happens. I am sure you will get yours soon. My previous order took about 2 weeks to get the production number. It really does depend on your dealer, but as long as you have an allocation, they will get you a production number, pretty quickly.

Lmao...This wait is insane, but getting closer. If this was my first time ordering a bmw, I might just think this was normal. My previous order took 3 months total to get (which at that point, I thought was a crazy wait). This time around, BMW really decided to test my patience and loyalty. Looks like they win again. I almost cancelled the order about 5 different times.

Almost got an m6 gran coupe, Infiniti q60 coupe, e46 M3 or e92 m3. I literally checked out all of the cars and even test drove some.

Now that the car is done, ill just patiently keep waiting.

Car just arrived at dealer. Just waiting to get confirmation from my dealer. Should be picking it up tomorrow.

Also glad they make the competition package with 18 inch wheels now.
