That said, this is the exact kind of behavior that crashes the market - everyone starts pulling out of equities for safety to avoid crash losses ... which then causes the crash.

So I guess the crash is inevitable, and about all you can do wait for it and then pile back in.

The question is, when do you go out, and what losses do you take doing that???

well, anyway, I'll let you know because that's what we started doing ...
I don’t pretend to know nearly as much about the financial markets as you guys do. But, even as a casual observer/participant, it sure is starting to feel a lot like 08 again. Bubbles everywhere etc.

I really dislike Elon Musk.

He is good at marketing but nothing special at anything else. Every time he claims something stupid when it comes to car marking I just laugh.

I'll give him more than that. I think he is one of the better visionaries of our time and I we need everyone of them we can get nowadays.

I agree about some of his car stuff. I'm guessing you are talking about the M3 comparison. When they iron the kinks out of the Model 3 I think he'll be right. It is ugly though.

It's not just the M3. Tesla in comparison has been awful with meeting timelines. By the time the Model 3 Performance comes, the G80 will be there.

Not to mention Model 3 78k costs more than a M3 w/ DCT and ZCP. A electric car has no soul in the way it drives.

Musk always talks big but he overpromises and under-delivers constantly. Tesla has not met a single promise Musk has made in YEARS. Let alone saying a Model 3 Performance can feel better than a sports sedan like a M3, C63S, RS4 or Giulia Q.V.

Musk is full of crap. He is a salesman like ppl you meet in dealerships and nothing more when it comes to cars.

Companies like Benz, BMW, Audi, VW have years of experience in car manufacturing. When they announce something, it comes on time and right as they announce it. Tesla? Musk announces it, then goes on to miss the promise and delivery then makes up an excuse about it later. I have full confidence the mainstream manufacturers will catch up within a few years and when they do. I'll tell those Tesla dummies I told you so. I have a cousin who used to/still is with Tesla as a financial manager but he owns a E46 M3 and I'm sure would prefer those types of cars. The other is a bf of my younger cousin and he is just a sales person and I can tell his knowledge isn't as well versed the way he talks about Tesla.

I just really REALLY don't like people buying into Musk's bullshit all the time. Electric cars are good and all, but please don't believe having a few of these on the road will change the world magically in 10 years. World doesn't work that way. If they actually do some critical thinking they would know that too.

P.S. Not to mention, Musk is making outrageous claims before the car is even released. There isn't even a demo car. Musk can fuck off.

P.P.S. At least Alfa Romeo had the decency to put their car on the track even though it seems like the Giulia QV they put on the ring was non production.

The thing is. It isn't like I actually hate Tesla. As a company they have been the front runners of pushing EVs and their cars don't look like ugly ducklings for reasons I still don't understand (Toyota?) I just really, REALLY hate Musk and his attitude.

He has lately, become exactly like Trump. Attacking the media because they keep calling out his BS especially when it is clear that Musk doesn't know his cars as well as he lets people believe. There isn't any firmware updates that can really "fix" brake fade. It's mainly mechanical. Tesla is also in debt and apparently massively. How they are actually continuing is actually way beyond how I understand things.

Remember one thing about Tesla: Amazon seemed to be in the same position a few years ago. Look at them now.

My respect for Musk on the SpaceX end. They really seem to be movers and shakers there.

And I don't think Musk is anything like Trump.

I can see that, but I'll also add the perspective of someone who's been building new shit inside of corporations for 20 years: it's really fucking hard and you HAVE to create a "reality distortion field" because people lack vision, hate change, and generally suck.

So you can call it "marketing" or you can see that he's using the only psychology technique possible: creating a reality distortion field to drive disruption.

Said differently, to change any accepted order of things and/or accepted knowledge you have to first establish a group of true believers and then they need to evangelize the change broadly to create doubt that the accepted order is immutable. Once that happens, general consumers will take the leap to buy products.

The key is, you must maintain your core group of believers because they're the ones that do that work and they will be constantly assaulted with "it can't be done, it's too hard, it's not possible" so as the leader you cannot waiver - it's your JOB to maintain the protective field around them. If they lose faith, then they'll sabotage the project, possible subconsciously. The leader must maintain the field.

So what you're seeing as "marketing" is actually likely not for you -- it's for his employees to see he's on the front line maintaining the field. He's holding the line in the face of withering attack. He's their leader.

My point is, this goes way beyond "marketing". If that technique is not used, no change will occur. The danger with using that technique, is the leader can overreach into zones of things that truly aren't achievable.

Like Theranos.

Reality distortion field (RDF) is a term used by Bud Tribble at Apple Computer in 1981, to describe company co-founder Steve Jobs's charisma and its effects on the developers working on the Macintosh project.[1] Tribble said that the term came from Star Trek.[1] In the Menagerie episode, it was used to describe how the aliens created their own new world through mental force.

The term has extended in industry to other managers and leaders who try to convince their employees to become passionately committed to projects without regard to the overall product or to competitive forces in the market.

“Steve has a reality distortion field.” When Hertzfeld looked puzzled, Tribble elaborated. “In his presence, reality is malleable. He can convince anyone of practically anything. It wears off when he’s not around, but it makes it hard to have realistic schedules.”

“The reality distortion field was a confounding mélange of a charismatic rhetorical style, indomitable will, and eagerness to bend any fact to fit the purpose at hand,”

― Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs

Observation on weird human behavior...

Ever notice on "digital/analog" scales (like a 1-100 range on a TV volume) that you tend to gravitate to even numbers - or perhaps multiples of 5?

And you'll certainly tend to avoid prime numbers. 43? I don't think so. That's 40 or perhaps 45.

May not be true of everyone but it's true of many people - both when I ask about it and when I watch how they set volumes.

Question is; why is that? Some sort of neurological quirk/quest for order I'm guessing.
