I would assume that you got a pre-packaged MusicarNW F3x/8x HK sub kit directly from them, correct?

I can tell everything is working fine in terms of the interface with the factor system because everything sounds great if I unplug the sub. I can definitely appreciate the extra juice going to the underseat drivers. That’s gonna be nice!

Also, of interest, I noticed that the horrible rattling distortion seems to resolve somewhat if I really crank the volume up. Perhaps is a signal issue--sub harness is wired wrong either at the amp or at the sub or perhaps the sub channel of the amp is faulty?

Here’s a video I made of the distortion.

Yes that is correct. I just sent them an email about an hour ago but I thought I'd reach out to the forum I case I'm missing something simple.

Yeah, no idea. Might help if you took pics of the wiring on the amp, the LC2i, and the settings on the amp and LC2i, and maybe I can tell something from that.

Otherwise, just wait until MusicarNW responds. They were really helpful when I did my install.

They've been super helpful. We were able to diagnose the problem pretty easily over the phone thanks to their expertise. MUSICAR rocks!!!

Can you post what it was for other people to learn?

I should add, at this late date, that I did the Jehnert upgrade for the underseat mid-woofers, and it was worth it. Not a huge increase in mid-bass, but you can definitely tell a difference in the quality. Not muddy anymore!

Probably get the same increase in quality with the BavSound underseat woofer upgrade, as well.

Thanks. One of the things that I noticed about the Bavsound subs was that I can finally clearly hear the "CRACK" of the primer charge going off before the "BOOM" of the cannons in Tchailovsky's 1812 overture. First time I've heard that in a car.

Was probably a newb mistake, like plugging the wrong wire in the wrong place, and he's too embarrassed to post. I say, who gives a shit? Just post it. Can happen to anybody.

I think my Jehnerts are really great. They're very accurate, quick, musical, can play high and dig pretty deep too. People have to remember it's a midbass, not a subwoofer. IMO, it's important that the midbass play higher (unlike the SWS) to meet the mids in the doors, because there's only so much a 3.5" driver can do; otherwise you have a hole in your frequency response. I'd love to see a comparison between Jehnert and the Bavsound solution. I'm guessing the Jehnert might be more accurate, but the Bavsound can play a tiny bit lower. Bavsound's design reminds me of the MB-Quart (German Maestro 8012) woofer, with the magnet in the front. Or the Illusion 8", except that the Illusion won't fit.

Read the entire thread. Looking to upgrade my sound also. Would be nice if they sold the HK kit without the amp to let us buy our own in case we wanted more bass.

I just got the Full Bass Level 3 system with JL XD1000/5v2 and W6, could someone with the same kit snap a pic of their amp settings and send it to me? I have the bass settings on the idrive in the middle stock setting, but the way the amp came it was wayy to much for the factory woofers and sounded horrible.

This is an old thread but I was hoping someone may know the answer to a question. If you wire the under seat subs to a separate amp, like the OP did, would that allow you to divide the factory amp’s 600 Watts by fewer speakers (this increasing RMS power to each other speaker) or is the RMS power per channel preset?

I’m still looking for a way to upgrade my system but the HK is just difficult to do for various reasons that I won’t get into in this thread.

I have not seen any car amp (OEM or not) that increases its max power in one channel if another is not powering anything. I don't even think that it is a good thing to do that...

As the OP (with an HK system, no less), this has absolutely zero effect on the facotry amp. It just doesn't send any power to the underseat subs anymore, but it doesn't add any power to any other outputs.

That's too bad. Thanks anyway. Hopefully I can figure something out -- I wish it were just as simple as replacing the amp.

What effect are you trying to achieve that you can't by simply upgrading the speakers?

I've upgraded to Bavsound Stage 1 and the Bavsound Ghost subs. It still doesn't sound great (although it's much better than stock HK was). I'm trying to get it closer to the clarity/separation of the F10 B&O that I previously had.

I've discovered that even the willingness to dump ~$3k into this isn't going to help because even with a Mobridge, if you add a DSP, then you need to add completely separate amps to power everything, which gets very pricey especially if you want to go fully active with quality components. Moreover, even if you do that, there is literally only one amp on the market that can do center channel upmixing, and it does the inferior PLII. So would it sound better with a DSP and cleaner power than it does with true Logic 7 upmixing? Probably, but I'm not sure if it's several thousand better and it might sound subjectively worse.

The reason I asked the question above was that my thought was if I could free up bandwidth for the remaining speakers, perhaps more power RMS would make the system sound better. In retrospect, it was a dumb question.

Dave90TT - I am thinking of going with a similar setup in my F80 (BavSound Stage 1 and Ghost SWs with the MusicarNW full bass level 2). Are you still satisfied with the system? Would you do the same thing again if you had to do it over?

Question goes to anyone who has done a similar upgrade.

Thanks.

Definitely would do it again. Worth the cost.

Only issue I have had is that the support to hold the trunk sub in place is lacking; it started coming out and sliding around if I took a corner too fast. Had to put some brackets in to hold it in place.

That's good to hear. I will have some time to decide if I need an upgrade between dropping it off in Europe and when it comes back, but I have a feeling I already know the answer...

Idk if mine is a more recent iteration but it came with a specially shaped wood block that bolts onto both the body and the inside of the musicar sub box. I don't see how it could come loose so this issue may be solved already.

Huh. Mine doesn't have that. Ah well.
