I'd pick an M3 again no question at all.

Couldn't bring myself to like a Vette. Got to enjoy this this past Saturday and for some reason I just wasn't that into perhaps because it looks too much like a Vette. That, however, should be a huge compliment to the Vette.

I also used to hate instructing beginners that would show up with various ZXX edition Vettes. They would show up in wife beaters, gold chains and gold bracelets, granny it around the corners and then 1/4 mile race it down the straights. I was always concerned that it would get away from one of them and I did see at least one involved in a bad wreck at Barber with a fellow instructor in the car.

Not to take this thread and turn it around to me, but I just had an interesting event this morning with the corvette dealer I visited this past week.

When I initially spoke with them, they were going to offer me $52k for my 2015 M4 (12k miles). Not great, but not horrible in terms of trade in value. The corvette was $67k sticker with an offer of $4k off, thus they gave me $11k to trade up. Again, not horrible. Talked it over with the wifey (who actually loves corvettes) and we didn't think it was a great idea.

The same dealer calls back a few days later with an offer of $8k to trade up. Again, my wife and I talk it over, end up passing on it.

This morning I get a call from the dealer saying they will offer an even trade if I come in today to pick up... I'm not sure how I feel about this. Definitely enticing to basically get a free grand sport that's 2 years newer with 12k miles less. The M4 is so great, I don't know if I'd be happy making that jump. Being that I live in Texas, there are miles of beautifully paved roads, as well as toll roads with fresh pavement, 85 mph speed limits (yes, this is a thing. I didn't believe it until I moved here and saw for myself) that are long and straight. These are great for cars like corvettes, but I haven't found many roads that curve like the northeast roads. Those roads I feel like the f8x shines. So there's pluses and minuses to both cars.

Not necessarily asking for advice, just curious what others would do in this position. Basically a free car to hoon around in that's newer, but you lose the beauty of the M cars huge amount of power, it's daily drivability feature and it's overall luxury and high quality.

That 2nd Ferrari pic above has me baffled! Front looks almost identical to a Z06, especially the lights. Looks like someone took a Z06 and added some Ferrari like panels. You're right, just the fact that it can be so easily confused for a Vette is good for Vettes, not so much for the Ferrari.

I know a bunch of guys that DD a c7 without issue. The ride is surprisingly comfortable and quiet in eco mode. I'm actually in the same boat, I'm starting to look and since my needs have changed since I bought my m4, I'm adding the C7 GS and cayman s to my search

Do it. Worse case, you dont like it and you get another M4. I bet it wont disappoint you though. Thats a hell of a deal.

Only wish they would do this in right hand drive or I would be very tempted!

Pull your finger out Chevrolet! Ford did it with the Mustang.

The tdf is over done and cheesy to the point of looking ridiculous, much like the Vette's silly slapped on parts bin crap. The below is a regular lightly used 2017 F12 (300 miles) that my wife has for sale for less than a 1/3 of the $1.2 mm tdf prices that is absolutely gorgeous and much better looking the tdf.

Ahh yes, if only I had Ferrari money so I wouldn't have to ride in or look at one of those sickening peasant-driven corvettes.
*polishes monocle*

I think grand sports are beautiful, and since my wife doesn't have a standard f12 for sale, I'll probably go look at the corvette again.

If everyone could afford one it wouldn't special and that white/red & black f12 is special. It's a great opportunity for the best color combo.

I do think Vettes are close to their mark and they are definitely great handling cars. I just don't get the cheap black plastic looking crap and what's up with that spoiler. Can no one in the US design something more attractive than that?

Yeah, I also prefer the simplicity and classic lines of your wife's car. Love the white on red too.

The current deal may sound good and look good on paper but to me its the depreciation value of the two cars that needs to be considered. No sense getting it if the Vette value plummets faster than the M4's (even if it is newer). I suggest checking that and find a car value depreciation calculator so you can compare the two cars depreciation rate see for yourself.

Not sure about the current Vettes, but they have held their value pretty well in the past. Assuming you get a good deal on it new of course. I paid $45k new for my C6 and sold it five years later for $32k. While not the same percentage-wise, I bet I will have lost that much on my M3 in 5 months.

I was with the girlfriend when we came across the current Vette in a parking lot. Pointed it out to her and asked what she thought. Her words, "It looks like a wannabe Ferrari, the M has much more class."

Exactly.

Have you priced tires for the GS? If you drive it daily, just in tires alone (2 sets/year), you are looking at $5k annually. That's $416/mth just for tires.

If the c7 gs had the z07 package I'd do that trade all day long.

Even if it was a base gs I'd consider it. That's a solid deal.

As for the tire cost, get a second set of wheels with PSS and keep the PSC2 for track days. Not a big deal.

I bit the bullet. I absolutely love this machine. I will probably end up getting an m3 as soon as I have kids because that is just such an amazing package. But for right now, this trade was irresistible and the grand sport is a totally different machine. I can't even explain how fun and raw this machine is, but I'll upload some pictures this weekend. For now, here's a horrible iPhone pic.

First step: remove the dealer plate frame

Thanks for this Kclark, I actually ran the numbers and not nearly as bad as I thought. Kind of a fun and interesting tool to use on other cars as well.

I've never considered a vette until this gen. Yes, my m4 has way more class, blends in better, and has a better cabin. The vette is definitely more in your face and unapologetic on the path its taken which is ok by me because its hitting its target. its a good time to be a car nut, in 08 when I got my m3, I didn't cross shop it because there was nothing else out there in the price range besides used 911s. Now folks have rs5, c63, vettes, caymans, atsv, fg Alfa, camaro, gt350s, used 911s, used maseratis, used jags, and a whole bunch of other options. my buddy just traded his for a 2014 SL63 amg. This car era is truly special
