New to the Forum
Hey everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself and my latest addition to the BMW family with a 2016 M4. Bought it with 42k miles with 1 previous owner and very clean. Car is stock and with a DCT. I'm planning a level 1 tune with the BMS kit and looking at some other minor upgrades like a Active AutoWerks mid pipe and a cold air intake. I saw some issues with the crank hub and was wondering if thats really a big issue? I've seen different opinions about it and can't tell what to think. I have an extended warranty on the vehicle from BMW as well. I look forward to seeing you all around in the forums and in the streets. Im located in the DMV area. |

Welcome and congrats!
A tune will wake her up a lot. Crank hub is debatable. Personally unless you plan to add decent power I'd save the money. It is peace of mind though. |

Welcome! IMO, the Crank Hub issue is overblown, particularly at stock and stage 1 power levels.
I added the crank bolt capture prior to going stage 1 and don't worry about it at all. (I also never use kickdown, which seems to be the culprit) |

If you downshift at high RPM, the crank hub bolt can also back out because of the torque. Doesn't matter if you're tuned or not.

Don’t count on your BMW extended warranty if you’re going to tune.

Congrats on the purchase OP. Enjoy...
Agree to this...cheap and easy to install. I'd look into before even stage 1.

Unless you plan to tune for 600WHP and up (custom E85 tune) a $100 crank bolt capture plate is all the protection you need for Stage 1 and 2. Install at an Indy shop should be 2 hours or less.
