I ordered a set of 19x9.5 ET22 square for winter to fix this. Will post pics once they arrive.
Brake caliber is really close on the top and bottom (1mm), but no there is no scratching, however, really tight on the M4.

When the car was jacked up it was closer, but when I dropped the car to the ground, the clearance was little better on the top. Remember, this is still only by the width of a paper.

Apex confirmed that these will fit...

Clearance and 640M wheels

You may want to try a wheel w/a bit more clearance. The wheel will flex somewhat and paper thin clearance sounds a bit tight.

I think I'm going to go w/the factory 640M wheel package from BMW, as it's factory recommended in the 255mm square set-up. Any further photos of the offset in the rear installed on the F8X? I'd like to ensure the ET40 in the rear w/255s fills out the wheel wells enough (width).

Thanks! Informative thread.

The dealership is telling me the 640M package specs are as follows:

The front wheels are 8.5x18 in front offset is Et29.
The Rear wheels are 9x18 in rear Rear offset is ET40

The rear offset sounds incorrect, so I am wondering if they have their facts straight. The sticky thread on winter wheels has them at ET29 in the rear. Can anyone confirm? ET40 in the rear sounds a bit narrow for a 255 width set-up. It will look odd.

Thanks again

The rear 640m should be an et 29 offset while the rear summer wheels have a 40 offset.

Either one should not really be noticeably narrower or wider after considering tire width differences too.

First of all, thank you creating this thread.

Have you gotten the 2 rear 640m wheel yet? I would also like to run a true square setup with 18X9 (Front/Rear) 640m wheels.

On the side note, I got all excited with aftermarket BBS SR (18X8) from TireRack but I was told the 255/40/18 will not work with this wheel. Anyway, I have started thinking about OEM setup once again.

Please keep us posted with result of test fitment.

Thanks

I was looking at Jackass' new setup:
Apex EC-7 wheels, 18x9.5, ET22
with Blizzak 255/40 18 Tires.
with TPMs, around $2,500.

Looking at new option:
18" Alzor Style 030 wheels (via ECS Tuning), 18x9.0, ET 35
with 10mm spacers and bolts (since wheels won't clear)
and TPMS, around $933.
Add Blizzak LM-32 255/40/18 $222 each
Total $1821

Nice wheel. Have you also looked at the Renn Motorsport RS-51? Anyone have experience with that wheel?

I like the APEX but it has a 2 year warranty, when others give lifetime structural. That being said, it probably doesn't matter since a successful warranty claim is unlikely.

How much do the Alzor's weigh?

I will, thanks. I actually cancelled my 640m order because - frankly - I realized they are too light colored for me. I want darker.

I'm consdering now the Rial P10 Salerno in painted black and similar options. I want to maintain an 18x9 square set.

I'll update the first page in the coming days.

Alzors weigh 22.9 lbs each for the 19x9 ET35. Not bad.
The Renn wheels look great, but I only see them in a 19, and I am looking for 18's to go with winters.

I'm not familiar with Alzor. And that's pretty lightweight for a non forged 18x9. Maybe a little too lightweight?

I know Rial is a solid German brand and receive TuV cert.

Not knocking Alzor I just know nothing about them.

Maybe someone could help. I am going to use my stock 18" rims for winter tires and read that 255/40/18 will fit with no problem, but the tire I want (nokian r2) don't come in that size. They offer 245/45/18 or 255/45/18. Which one should I go for considering that I am lowered on H&R's or maybe suggest some other size? Please help as I have to order them very soon.

Appreciate the help! Thank you in advance!

245/45/18 have nearly the exact diameter of the rear tires. The rear tires are approx 1/2" larger in O.D. than the fronts.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I should go 245/45/18 front and rear and should be ok with the fitment for winter?

The approved rim widths for the Nokian tires are 7.5"-9" (245/45R18) and 8"-9.5" (255/45/R18). The rear wheels of the stock 18s (513M) are 10" wide.

I just spoke to someone at tirerack with the same question and they said yes.

Thanks for putting this thread together, Joe!

I had the same concerns, but the wheels are VIA certified to meet JWL standards. The VW guys love the wheels, and have been using them for years. I seem to recall some issues when HRE first started, and so I am glad that Alzor has been making wheels for some time now.

And at the end of the day, these are winter wheels that will only be on for the three months when my car is washed the least anyway. I would rather spend more for better summer wheels.

If I pull the trigger with Alzor, I'll update this thread.

So 255/45/18 should work fine for front and rear and the 245 is to slim for the rear, or?

The wheel width should be within the approved rim width for the tire. The rear wheels for the stock 18s are wider (10") than the upper limit of both 255 (9.5") and 245 (9") Nokian R2 tires.

If you check the blizzaks (LM-60 or LM-32) on tirerack and click the specs. It will show you the approved rim width. For a 255/40R18 tire you will see that the approved rim width is 8.5" to 10" so it will work with the stock 18" rear wheels.

Thanks for the help and info, but this is my problem: I want a very good winter tire and maximum grip on snow and ice, so far the Nokian is very good and the LM-60 blizzaks we don't get here, the LM-32 is however available. So I guess I will have to skip the Nokians and consider 255/40/18 LM-32? Suggestions welcome..

I was in the same position. I wanted to go for the Nokian R2s but couldn't find the Nokians or any of the other "pure" winter tires (e.g. Blizzak WS series) that would fit the stock rear wheels. So I went with Blizzak LM-32. I would say that the blizzak LM series is one of the top "performance" winter tires for snow/ice. Please note that the "performance" winter tires won't be as good in snow/ice as the "pure" or "studless" winter tires.

If you are open to getting a new set of winter wheels you have a lot more options including the BMW winter package.
