Adaptive LEDs De-Decoded.

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Got a GoPro, and took the first video tonight. This is a rough, short clip showing the Adaptive LED lights in action after removing the USA-ifying "features" 5AP and 8S4 from the VO.

I promise to get a better angle on them soon. Perhaps with a sync'd forward view.

Thanks!

Neat! It would be cool to get PIP of the front of the car as well as the lights.

I did the coding myself. I got the software at a location provided by PM when I posted in that thread, and the cable is one I got at Amazon.

That cable can be had cheaper, or you can build it yourself. But, the reviews were good and $40 would save way more than its worth in the frustration of trying to build my own.

Sorry. Should have done a better job explaining...

If you watch the outer light, and the pattern that it makes on the lens of the housing, you can see that, as the high beams are on, the light hunts left and right, reacting to traffic that is in front of it. This is the Anti-Dazzle feature that is not available in the US working. It's more subtle in real life than in the BMW Video, but it definitely works.

If you don't watch the left side of the light and the center pin in the left light reflector, it's a bit like watching paint dry.

Ok, I just had my car coded for this and it doesn't do anything. How do you activate the anti-dazzle high beams? I push the lower button on the left stalk and the light indicator turns on on the dash, yet light patterns don't change at all toanynlticeable degree when I drove at night. If I turn on high beams they just stay bright without adjusting at all when cars approach. Any ideas?

This. So much awesome in the way it's self-adjusting.

For me, I have to be on a fairly dark road before the auto highbeams kick on, and then it's a lot more subtle than the films. Pay attention to the right side of the light field as you approach other vehicles from behind.

Also, there are activation speeds. Normally, I think they are around 40 MPH. This prevents the system from being on in a city setting. Make sure you get to speed before you look for the Adaptive lights. (Myself, I coded the limit down to about 19mph, so it comes on earlier)

wait so u can code in the speed where it turns on? is this like an option or requires special coding?

If you manually turn the highbeams on, you won't see any changes, they just stay on full bright and in a fixed position.

This system only works if you switch the dial to automatic and then enable automatic high beams. When dark enough, and going at the correct speeds, the high beams will automatically switch on and in this mode they will adapt to oncoming and passing traffic etc.

James.

Thanks. I tried again last night and drove in a very dark area and it worked. I guess the streets and highways I was driving on before just wasn't dark enough.

Thanks! Didn't realize there was a speed limit on how fast you have to be traveling for it to work.
