Buying USED: M4 vs M3 USED car values

I just did a quick search of cars.com as my lease is almost up and with the bad lease rates, I am considering buying a used m3/m4. I have always loved the M3 and have 2 kids but my car is not the family car (just bought a CPO Tesla for that). When I search cars.com and other used sites nationally, I see a ton of M4's under 50k and some that are even in the 40-45k range. The M3 seems to be holding value as there isn't one car without accident or salvage history under 46k. Is this normal for the coupe m4 version that had a higher MSRP (base to base) to depreciate that much faster? I am open to getting an M4 and if I can get a cleaner one with less miles for less money then the m3. I would guess that the values should be the same on these cars. Has the M4 really depreciated that much faster?

Its more likely that there are just a lot more M4's available than M3's since more M4's are produced. I doubt the depreciation is that much different, just more to choose from of varying conditions/mileage/price points vs the M3.

Its simply supply & demand. Look at how many m4s are available vs m3s. The F82 was much easier to get an allocation to purchase.

that actually makes a lot of sense. I wonder if there is a ratio out there that says how many m3 vs m4 were built each year.

same question was brought up many times in the forum before but this article stated the following, basically M4 will outsell the M3 7x

"BMW estimates that a massive 61 per cent of sales will go to the M4 coupe during the car’s life cycle, which is followed by 28 per cent for the forthcoming M4 convertible and 11 per cent for the M3 saloon"

It appears the opposite on this forum as it seems to me that a majority are acquiring M3 > M4.
