Individual Ordering Question

Hi Guys,

Couple of days back I placed an order for an individual color car. The dealer had an allocation and the CA gave me a production number. Today the CA told me that the car went into production before he heard back from BMWNA regarding the individual color.

Does this happen when ordering an individual color? The CA is trying to get another allocation. Is there anything I/CA can do so that this doesn't happen with the new allocation?

Any advice will be very helpful.

What was your individual color? From the BMW PKoD:
"All Special Order Request Forms (found below) must be submitted to Regional Distribution Managers, who then forward the requests to the VIP Ordering Specialist."

I did contact Maria Martine who asked for the dealer to get in touch with her which I believe he did. But I am not sure how the car got into production.

Great color!! Usually it should add upwards of 12 weeks to the build time, CA skipped steps and probably didn't understand the Individial ordering process.

What color shows up when the production number is entered into 'Track my BMW'?

It shows up as Alpine White the temporary color the CA had entered into the system. Unfortunately, it looks like the car has already started production. I am trying hard not to give in to the ease of ordering a standard color. I am not sure what I can do to prevent my next allocation from starting the production process before the individual color gets approved.

If your vehicle has already started production (status 150) then it's a Alpine White build. Individual vehicles will have also have a "Ind Block Date" listed on the VIR which will be weeks to months prior to actually production that no changes can be made. For example my F83 finished production around July 11th,2017, but the Individual block date was 5/11/2017 (2 months). Seems that your CA/dealership will have a Alpine White for the lot. Ask Maria what steps the CA should follow, as your vehicle should of been placed in the order bank while VIP Special Order approved your color.

indiv process is as follows
1. submit color choice to indiv (3days - 2 weeks to hear back on avg)
2. if the color is approved indiv sends dealer cost and ok
3. dealers discloses info and cost to the buyer
4. buyer agrees, if dealer has a allocation he submits order and gives buyer production number
5. indiv orders can add 3weeks to 4 months (sometimes more) onto process.

the only way you would be able to get it sooner without any sort of the above action done would be the slim chance the dealer has that exact car specd out already in the pipeline. this is very rare but possible.

when tracking the car online there is times where the website will post a std color. the best way to know for sure is the follow up with your dealer or call BMW 1-800 number with the production number in hand and talk to a rep.

@GOLFFRR Thanks for the process, as I saved this for my 2020 F83 order if I go Individual Manufaktor then. Never too early to start planning the next ED experience.
