F30? F32? F82?
I'm confused.
I know the current gen 3-series 4 door is called F30. So it'd make sense that the upcoming 2 door 4-series would be known as F32. You know, like E90 VS E92. But I've also heard terms like F80 and F82? What are those? |

The F80/F82 are M designations for the M3/M4. F80 is the M3 Sedan and the F82 is the M4 Coupe. They no longer share the same chassis number as the regular BMW cars.

Indeed. And the F83 will be the M4 convertible and the F86 the M4 Gran Coupe.

Thanks guys for the education.
I think my next car it's going to be a F82 : ) unless I have a change of heart and decide to buy another E92 at the very last minute! Man I am going to miss the S65.....................!!!!!! |

The M3/M4 is anyway a low production car. Wouldn't it be cheaper for BMW to make the S65 with double injection (port and direct injection), resulting in even more power and higher flat torque band and cylinder deactivation like the new SLK 55 AMG, for even lwer fuel consumption ? That is what Prosche did to their 911 Carrera and Carrera S (991). Well, BMw chose the even cheaper way, new ECU on N55 and call it S55. Just look, the 911 Carrera S is the best 911 ever, minus the lack of manual handbrake and EPS, but that is nothing compared to the lovely NA H6 that compenses these two few demerits. But what is the BMW Motorsport race program for the new M3/M4 ? DTM ? GT4 ? GT2 ? I hope the rules won't change and they'll be forced to use NA engines. |
