I'm excited. The M3 should have come with the comp pack(minus the wheels) standard.

Cool. If I wanted an M3/4 I'd get competition package. Always get the competition package because otherwise you have an M3 civic.

I don't understand why so many are so bothered by .1 second 0-60 quotes. A 0-60 time is one of the most outdated and measures these days with traction having become the limiting factor. The ZCP could have raised hp to 1000 and your 0-60 wouldn't be much better if at all.

$5000 for all that is a bargain if that's really the final price of the package for US market cars. This is by far the most comprehensive performance package on a BMW for years... Just imagine what Porsche would have charged for all that, if this was one of their cars.

Aside from the wheels, which can be fixed easily, the whole package is perfect. Slap on a set of 19" Apex for street and 18" for track for $3-4k and sell you stock 20" for $3k to guys who like those, and you are good to go.

Did we get the weight of the ZCP/GTS wheels?

I just read this in the GTS CF wheels announcement:

"They enable around seven kilograms to be shaved off the weight of a BMW M4 GTS fitted with the already extraordinarily lightweight forged aluminium wheels specified as standard"

Yeah, the days of small track wheels are over. Brakes are too big today. As an example both the 991 GT3 RS and the LaFerrari run 21s at the rear. With 20s in the front to clear the brakes. We had this discussion before here and the main advantage of smaller wheels seem be limited to the cost and availability of tires.

What if you aren't a "track" guy? I've owned an M3 going on 15 years now, original owner of both E46 M3 and E90 M3. Love the cars, but really never had an interest in tracking them.

For regular city/highway driving, wouldn't there be ride quality and comfort differences between 19's and 20's? Or other differences that aren't related to whether you track your car or not?

I sure hope the changes they made to the suspension damping are extreme.

Because by today's standards for performance oriented cars, the damping on the standard M is embarrassing.

You pay top dollar for that M badge, you expect world class suspension/damping, yet cars as cheap as an Audi S3 with its magnetic shocks kill it in the damping department.

And even if their updates are extreme, you shouldn't have to pay extra for it when you are buying an M badged car.

Unless you need adjustability for the track, you should not feel like you have to step up to a coil-over suspension to get world class damping on an M.

Racing cars still use 18" wheels though, or at least the C7R I was looking over last night at NAIAS does. Not that I am saying a race car and street car are directly comparable, but I wonder how race cars - which you'd think need the best brakes technology will allow - manage the smaller wheels.

Naturally a smaller wheel/tire combination will also be lighter than a larger one too, assuming reasonably similar side wall height. Most racing tires have a pretty decent amount of sidewall irrespective of wheel size though, yes. They can't get away with the extremely low profile tires you find on high performance street cars.

$100k vs. $10k for brakes give you some options other than huge rotors
Also race car brakes aren't that cool to use on the street ( Actually too cool ). As you say not comparable.

Because real race cars care more about actual performance than looks, which is what 20" wheels are really about.

I dig it. Are the specialty seats leather? Is that cost included with the package?

Total bargain!

Guys!

I don't see why a lot of you are thrashing this package, it's a total Deal!

Even if it were only an M Performance Accessories package!!

Of course, This is in My World...

AfterMarket Exhaust Installed:

* Akra Ti Evo > $ 7,000.00+
* BMW MPE > $ 5,000.00+

Aftermarket Wheels:

* HRE's > $10,000.00+
* BBS's (F1-R's)$ 8,000.00

I was originally going to get the MPE, but when I found out that the
install required cutting and that you couldn't get it "Factory Installed"
- on the Build Sheet (Well, maybe, but not for much less than the Akra.)
It became a no brainer to go for the albeit, more expensive Akra.

Now, This Competition Package is offering the MPE as a "Factory" option!

Even if you truly hate the wheels - and they are too big - you probably could request this package with a "wheels delete" option and still be getting a deal! Hell, Get them & Sell them!!

Plus you're getting the Active Suspension and the, again,"Factory installed" "Shadowline Gloss Black" Kidneys & Side Gills

Cheers!

Note: The quotes on Factory is because it yet still may be an at Port installation, But it will be on the Original Build/Order sheet, if this has any
significance for you.

Not all 19s are lighter than all 20s, although given that both of the optional wheels on this car are forged, I think the most you can really hope for is to have these be the same weight as the 19s. If they're much lighter, I'd wonder how the 20s compare in terms of strength. And if they're much heavier, then that runs pretty antithetical to the idea of a Competition Package....
The E9x ZCP wheels are cast and heavier than the 19" forged option at the time.

Unfortunately this isn't the MPE included in the package. It's a different exhaust altogether; a step up from the stock exhaust but a step below the MPE.
