Anyone have a noisy water injection pump?
Hi Chaps,
Following on from the other water injection thread, regarding the no use of water, could I ask if the GTS lads have a noisy pump? We have a DTM Championship Edition M4 and can plainly hear the water injection pump being noisy - what can only be described as a spitting, bubbling sort of sound coming from the rear. And no water consumption at all. Could this be a similar problem to the other thread, and we need the filter replacing? Wanted to try remedying it ourselves before taking it to the dealers. Any help appreciated. TIA |

When I had "Water injection pressure too low" error codes, water pump still made noise as you describe, but after it the filter was replaced- it was much more louder.
I believe a lot of M4GTS's are affected by this issue, best way to routinely check is by using a diagnostic tool like BMW Carly and/or monitoring your sports display gauge

Reviving this discussion after two months post the "repair"...
After the car came back from the shop, it did make a noise. It's kind of between whirring and whining, and increases in volume with engine speed. I presume this is from the pump. Water consumption is minimal. Haven't had to fill up the tank for about 800-1000 miles. There has been some decrease in water level though. This is the kind of issue that really sucks because you don't quite know whether you have a problem or not. The car drives fine and it's not like I'm willing to dyno to see if I'm getting all 500 horsies. The pump whine is annoying though, and I see myself getting fed up with that soon |

You might reconsider your GT4 over GTS comment if in fact you find out that the water injection wasn't working properly and start driving it when fixed. From what I know, I don't hear the water injection pump whirring and whining while driving- only when I turn the car off (when it flushes back into the tank) I'll post up the repair order notes in my next post

i saw your posts about Carly but was all, i don't want to buy something just to diagnose this but i did some pulls last night and again this morning on my breakfast run and the sport display does hit 500-ish so i guess the real issue is granny driving and too much crawling in traffic it looks like i will have to take it back for the whining noise though - mine is totally different. you can hear it the whole time the car is at speed. thanks for all the input. |

Anytime it reads below, I check for codes, and sure enough there's always a code. I had my stone water filter cleaned twice, replaced twice and finally had the valve and pump replaced. Certainly, the any power input below 5000 rpm the car only feels like a regular M4 ZCP, but, just as the GT4, above 5000 rpm, the car is bonkers! Lowering the car to race height, suspension settings at race, and max aero also made a world of difference - truly transforms the car the way its intended to be. Good luck on the whining noise, the only downside to this car is parts availability

update - pump works fine. the whine was the differential. i feel dumb because it sounded exactly like a diff whine, but i got confused because it only started when the water pump stone filter was replaced. so i was blaming the wrong system all along. now i have another question, which i'll ask in another thread.
