Thoughts on purchasing this 2015 M4 buy-back?

- Less than 9k miles
- OEM warranty good 'til mid-2019
- Lemon buyback from BMW (Issues with driver mirror whistling)
- ~$50k

Maybe owner could not afford it and this was an excuse used to get BMW to buy the car back. Need to see how much was done to rectify the issue besides new glass or weatherstripping or door adjustment.

Thoughts?

I know someone who got a buyback for the rock in the brake rotor issue that every F80 had, so I wouldn't be shocked if BMW took a car back from a good customer for something as dumb as this.

Does a lemon buyback show up on CarFax? Would a future buyer care?

As long as service records back it up it's a bit contrived the excuse. It is on carfax.
I'm going to test drive it, was auctioned off
See if it was fixed
I'm also calling a service manager buddy to get all details on what was done

Just went through the service records
Rock stuck in rear rotor was one reason lololol for the buyback on the car
The head technician at BMW used a sonography machine to pinpoint noise and it was coming from a misaligned joint of the carbon fiber roof. Parts were ordered and replaced and no noise.
Original trouble shoot was weathe stripping on door and window giving it vibration noises. But narrowed down to the roof. Service guy said it probably was because parts came and took so long and then the rotor issue was breaking point for original owner no drivetrain issues

No secret that m4 suffer from rattles and noises
See tons of diy stuff on seals
And ever so slightly move rotor shield from rotor for rock issues
I'll go take a look at it and drive it
Pics of roof seam being sent as I speak

It does show on the carfax saw it
I have a friend or two trying to disuade me saying that BMW would not lemon a car so quickly unless it had a serious issue they knew would never be fixed

sometimes it is not bmw's choice. there are aspects of time tied to lemon laws. if it wasnt fixed in a certain period of time, or it was in the shop for the same reason to many times, they had no choice but to take it back based off of the state lemon laws.

buy back doesnt mean major problem, it means pesky problem

you may also want to look at the warranty. why do you think it is still good. i would imagine a buy back vehicle carries no warranty.

I spoke to BMW warranty is all good

Not sure if it was a drivetrain or electrical issues that they would stand by it

Here is a funny story
Lexus LS cars 2007-2009 had horrible wind noise and actually did buybacks

Here is a quote from someone who bought a wind noise buyback

"This thread makes me chuckle."

I bought a 2007 LS460 that was a factory buyback car. It was bought back from the original owner because of wind noise. I got the loaded car for $40K with only 4400 miles on it, in perfect condition.

This car is the quietest car I have ever owned or ridden in.

The reason I am chuckling is - my neighbor just came home with a brand new 2008 Mercedes S550. (Beautiful car.) I drove it and it had terrible wind noise - sounded like it was missing an entire window seal. He drove mine and commented how quiet it is!!!

Ha!

M4s don't have the seal issue - that is the M3s.

I wish I knew they were buying back LSs those years because I would have sold them back my 2008 LS. No wind noise (and never heard of that problem with the LS until your post) but it was a piece of shit for numerous other problems. That was my last Lexus...

I know it varies by state but I thought most lemon laws required buyback if you brought it in for the same problem x number of times over some period. If the roof was fixed and then he had a rock stuck in the rear rotor, seems like it would be an uphill battle to get it lemon-lawed. If the dealer did a courtesy buyback I don't think the title would say Lemon Law? Wouldn't they just remove the rock from the rotor and sell it as CPO? Why dump it at auction and lose a ton of money on it?

I agree with your friends that it seems like there may be part of the story missing.

Edit: Car looks like it's from Wisconsin. Not sure how it met Lemon Law criteria based on the issues you described:
