F8x M4 vs. B9 RS5
Interesting article I found over at audizine. I'm still looking to switch back to BMW with an F80 M3 but looks like Audi is ditching the NA V8 for a V6. Not sold on the styling either but it's only a front-on render. Also, this info comes from CAR magazine so it may only be speculation. This segment will be interesting in the coming years!

Oh absolutely.. I enjoy my s4 as a DD, but it leaves something to be desired in the driving characteristics department. I'm a BMW guy and I'd love to buy an e9x m3 right now but it would be financially irresponsible for me to do so :/ but damn am I tempted lol so I'll wait it out for the F80; if it's a blast, I'll go for that. If not, CPO e9x M3 most likely.

To take with a big grain of salt, info/rumor is the F80 did 0-100 km/h in with launch-control in 3.5 sec. Consider the Alpina B3 Biturbo /xDrvie does that in 4.2/4.0 sec. Note that M3 is more than 100 kg lighter, has more than 50 PS more, has M-Diff and has DCT which is faster at shifting, so as launch control of course.

Again, that is not true anymore. RS5 is not faster than M3 not even to 60 mph. Next generation will be no different as both will be turbocharged, so have equal weapons. Only next C AMG will very likely be faster.

As for it doing 0-100km/h (62mph) as fast as a 4WD Audi, not going to happen, sorry. |

While I agree MB have made strides, much of this closing gap is due to the current M5 and M6 being 10% heavier than they should be. Both are very weighty even compared to their immediate V10 forbearers.

So if this comes to pass it would make the score: BMW 3.0, Audi 3.0, Mercedes 4.0. It will indeed be interesting to watch. Of course, Mercedes has a 3.0L V6 coming online next year as well, but they plan to keep the V8 in the C class AMG for at least one more generation. |

I'll hold off judgement until we see how capable the MLB platform is mated with a lighter engine. There's no denying that the M3 has much better balance, but the torque vectoring capabilities on the new Audi e-quattro should narrow the margin. The rear diff already does a great job of counteracting understeer in all B8 models that carry it.
I'm hoping to be living in a warmer climate where AWD isn't "as necessary", so should be a great fight for my $$$.

I hope the B9's will have more R8/Porsche AWD handling characteristics. I know an S4 will hang the tailout but it's pretty hard to do. I love the S4 and S5 but I like my sports cars a little more tail happy.

I went with the B8.5 S4 over the F30 for a multitude of reasons, but BMW is really the car to beat here, the M3 holds THE crown, we'll have to wait and see...either way I'll have a badass sports car

Also - Audi doesn't need to worry about added weight in the back, car is too nose heavy as it is. I do think they moved the front axle further forward on MLB which should help a lot.
