Break in 1200 or can be less?

Can I have it on less miles? How much less? Or have to be 1200?

Car will let you know when it's due whether at 1200 or not. If you drive the car daily it will likely be at 1200 whereas if you are using it as a weekend driver then it will likely be before the 1200 mark.

I brought my car in at 1000-1050 no questions asked! Even brought my car in for first oil change 2000 miles early, again no questions asked haha. Bring it in worst they can say is no, but they won't.

every few weeks with this question.......
it will say service is due right when you get the car. so you ought not pay attention to that. it's designed to be done at 1200 miles for a reason. so as close as possible to that.

i'll wait for the engineers that know better to chime in and say it doesn't matter.

Depending on the dealer. Had my M3 done just under 1000 miles a couple of years ago.

It's called a break in period for a reason. Servicing early doesn't mean your break-in period is over. Means that you shouldn't be driving this type of car.

hmmm, last I remember from the manual was it didn't state a break-in for this or that. It just said that the break-in service should be done @ 1200miles/2000kms......

then next service shows at 8000 KMs.....

the point of the break in oil change is to remove the metal fragments that break off from your engine during the initial stages of its life.

you can break your engine in the proper way (refrain from revving past 3-4000RPM for the first 3000 miles)

or the quick way by just redlining the shit out of it the day you get your car and having it burn tons of oil down the road because things like pistons did not seat properly and let oil to seep through and burn.

I dropped the hammer on my dads car 1800 miles in and it burns some oil - those of you with new cars, M or non M. do not make the same mistake I did. not all metal fragments will come out in 1200 miles (unless you redline it repeatedly of course)
