I was able to see the production finished model of the vert at a VDC tour this weekend. Looks pretty good. My mouth went to the floor when they had 3 M4's and an M3 and was able to get a detailed look. Unfortunately not allowed to take pictures for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the note. Any mention of when it will be unveiled and how much it weighs? I'm asking about the unveiling because I have seen conflicting reports about the timing and, as for the weight, I'm just hoping it's hundreds of pounds lighted than my E93 M3 (which is MUCH heavier than the previous E46 M3 convertibles that I had and you can easily feel the tremendous difference).

Thanks,
Jeremy

Considering it was there, which was a total shock, I'm guessing the official unveil will be at the NY Auto Show in April. Unfortunately, they weren't willing to give much stats on it. It was my first time seeing the new cars in person and have to say they look more intimidating in person. The overall feel is tighter when sitting in it, the new seats really feel like they wrap around you tighter (and I'm a skinny dude). Considering the new car is supposed to be lighter than the e9x's, I'd assume the new vert would be lighter as well.

I quess(iam sure to be honest) that the weight of the new M4 cabrio will be equivalent to the 435 cabrio's weight which means 1.800++ kgs . Perhaps a few kg/pounds less just for marketing reasons ( although officialy the M4 is a few pounds havier than 435i)

Lets see !

Personaly if i wanted a hardtop ,and for this weight , i would go for SL 63 AMG for better power, sound, exclusivity etc .

Let's see the real facts! BMW M4 = 3,300 lbs, BMW 435i = ~3,600 lbs. I guess that's why they used carbon fiber in the M4! So clearly the M4 Convertible won't weigh the 435 cabrio's 1,800+ kgs. The question is: How much lighter will it be? Hopefully we'll find out soon.

And I doubt people are cross-shopping the SL63 and M4 Convertible. Aside from the fact that the SL63 is likely 50% more in price, it only has 2 seats. Completely different cars at a completely different price. If price is no object then I'm guessing many would cross-shop an M4 Convertible and a Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible...

That said, now - given I can afford one - i will never go back. The truth is I don't go to the track ... I always planned too but I just haven't yet and with the vert, it's awesome every day.

It's to the point that I don't understand why anyone who lives is a decent climate *wouldn't* buy a 'vert daily driver:

Sun's out, guns out
Bought the vert to feel the V8 noise and the exhaust

Obviously. Right after a heroin shoot and a few mushrooms.

If i ask my 5 year old son to draw a roof on top of that open convertible it would look that way.

I gotta say it looks gorgeous when open

Wow, convertible version does look better than the coupe.

So I guess F80 > F83 > F82 for this generation

I am reserving my judgement until I see the car with the roof UP. Most convertibles look great with the roof down - roof up is a different story! I don't love the way my E93 M3 looks with the roof up but it definitely looks great with the roof down. While I agree with everyone that the F83 is an improvement over the E93, I'm still reserving my final judgment until I see it in-person with the roof UP, especially since some have reported that the car has a really wide stance that doesn't seem obvious in the photos.

Needless to say I am REALLY looking forward to seeing this in-person, especially in MG and Black. My lease is up in the Fall of 2015, right in time for a new '16. And the LCI might even kick in by then!

I disagree on the first paragraph. The official BMW site is very clear.

BMW M4

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...ata/index.html

Unladen weight EU in kg 1,572 [1,612]

And the same for the 435i

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...ata/index.html

Unladen weight EU in kg 1,585 [1,600]

Obviously the M4 is slightly havier .
I dont know what journalists right here and there. I see and compare the official technical data and nothing else.

I think that 435 cabrio and M4 will have similar weight .

I agree on the second paragraph. In my case, I have a personal preference for two seater cabrios .

Thanks for posting your links. I can't comment about the weight in kg but here are the links that I used to compare the weight of the M4 and the 435i:

BMW M4 - 3,300 lbs: http://www.autoweek.com/article/2014...news/140119900 -

BMW 435i - 3,610 lbs (automatic - deduct 30 lbs for manual): http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...fications.aspx

I'm clearly not going to dispute the official BMW site links you used (thanks again for posting them) but I have a hard time believing and understanding that BMW spent a lot of money including carbon fiber in the M4 and the net result is no weight savings compared to the 435i. That makes absolutely no sense.

Can anyone shed some lights on the discrepancies in my links vs the BMW european data and can anyone explain how it's possible that official BMW site shows the M4 and 435i coupe weighing the same despite all of the weight savings efforts employed in the M4?

Thanks in-advance for helping to explain this...
