You could always drill holes through the driveshaft before wrapping it. If you drill enough, it will be as light as the CF one, and look just the same.

What could possibly go wrong?

Nothing more than cost saving measure for BMW. M3/M4 can get substantial weight gain without CF shaft.

2.5kg apparently. So about 5.5lb.

If I gave up cheeseburgers for 2 weeks, I could save more than 5.5lb myself, so it's a moot point really.
