Just thought of a brilliant solution. CF-look vinyl wrap the steel driveshaft.

The wrap (or dip) will take a few pounds of the steel..

You could always drill holes through the driveshaft before wrapping it. If you drill enough, it will be as light as the CF one, and look just the same.

Nothing more than cost saving measure for BMW. M3/M4 can get substantial weight gain without CF shaft.
